I tried the TC Flashback delay today. It didn't do it for me. It seemed somewhat difficult to dial in when using most of the modes. The tempo feature was nice though. I will have to give it a second try, but my first impression was a let down. I definitely like the MXR Carbon copy better. Anyone else?

I vastly prefer the Flashback over the Carbon Copy. Much more versatile and just flat out sounds better to me. Teh CC was so grainy, it was too much. The TC can sound analog without the nasty graininess.

I like the CC but haven't tried out the Flashback yet.

The Carbon Copy is fine for an echo. As a delay though, it doesn't hit near hard enough for me. I would rather use a Boss DD3 than the CC. The TC is definitely a better delay, and you have access to a lot of artist settings.

I owned the Flashback for a little while and didn't love it

I really wanted to like the flashback too since it is so versatile. I must be fair and give it a second try. Any recommended settings?

I bought one simply to try it out-played it for maybe a month. I really did enjoy it. Crazy versatile and sounds great. Especially considering the cost. I'm just too in love with my SuperDelay. I really don't think it can be replaced. Unless they come up with another SuperDelay of course :D

have a look at some of the toneprints on the TC website,

i liked the Steve Morse, Doug Aldrich and i think Stefan Schackinger ones especially

otherwise for say a chorus sound:

go to Mod setting -- delay at minimum -fx level to taste/ feedback too - and using either one of the three subdivisions you get different chorus like tones with a minor bit of delay, is a really nice setting

i preferred other pedal delays for say the analog setting but imo the 2290 // mod // tape echo // slapback // ambient // reverse are all good, really depends what you're after

i've recently picked up a timefactor, still not sure whether to keep the TC, but for a small footprint delay, it does a lot

The FB is hands down the best delay that I have tried in awhile. Different strokes, I guess.

The FB delay is the best bang for a buck in a pedal ever. Every single setting is top notch and perfectly usable. The Echoplex Tone Print is stunning, and it would be worth the price by itself. OTOH, I just can't see how anybody can use the CC for more than a slight ambience, anything more is just mud. I'm seriously thinking about getting a second FB, to have access to more than one setting at the same time.

It was king of strange, since I absolutely love the delay's that Gilmour uses. They never get in the way of the next note at all, and just sound fantastic. I know he used a 2290 for quite some time, so I immediately went to the 2290 mode. Now I know obviously the pedal isnt a rackmounted 2290, but I thought it would be a nice representation. I tried the 2290, Analog, Mod, tape, dynamic and lofi modes. It could have been a "bad pedal day", as I get those too when I cant dial a pedal in if my life depended on it. I just couldnt get anywhere inbetween of having the delay extremely subtle and having it get in the way of my playing.

Will have to give it another try today.

Yah it was quite strange. It is a great sounding delay from any clips I have heard. It was like I was unable to unlock the sonic goodness :(

My main problem with the pedal was the modulated delay. There was no way to tweak the modulation and the factory mod setting was very overpowering. The other delays were just meh IMO. I'll keep my Brigadier, thank you :inlove:

I also have a question about the tone prints. The settings on the toneprints...., do you need to use a toneprint to get that sound or can you just dial in the pedal without the toneprint to get that sound?

In otherwords, do the toneprints actually give you new sounds that you couldn't get yourself with the pedal, or just conveniently give you settings that have been saved into presets?

from what i've understood toneprints use various settings that are tinkered with that the various modes can't access on their own (added modulation for example or things like that)

Are you using it in front of the amp or in a loop? I have the FB and it's very easy to dial in. The 2290 setting is awesome. I really haven't found a bad setting on it yet. I haven't gotten into the tone prints. They need sample audio so you don't have to download them to hear them. I like the size too.

I think its one of the better pedal delays I've owned. Im a real analog/tape echo fan and this will never replace my echoplex or hughes kettner replex, but i must say i was pleased with the tape echo and reverse delay feature on the TC. As much as i love analog delays, the Carbon Coby wasnt doing it for me, too sterile and muddy sounding IMO, especially when ran in a loop. for the money the TC is an ideal delay pedal with lots of versatility and simple to use and doesnt take up real estate on pedal board.

I was honestly using it into the front of a clean amp. I know delays into the front of an amp are not that popular, but since it was a clean amp, It shouldnt be that much of an issue.

I monkeyed around with a few delays at GC over the weekend to have something at home to use. My reference point is a Timefactor that I've had about 2 months that I leave with the "big rig" at the studio. I tried the Flashback, CC, Malekko 616, and Aqua Puss. Some kid was wailing on the Boss board, so I didn't try the DD7.

My thoughts -
CC - I didn't like one I tried a few months ago, didn't like this one either.
Malekko 616 - For $150, this was a smokin one-trick-pony delay. I thought it kicked all kinds of ass. Couldn't get the modulation to sound good, but whatever, leave it off.
Aqua Puss - umm, didn't do anything for me. The Malekko destroyed the CC and Aquapuss for the analog sound
Flashback - decent analog and tape sounds (I thought it sounded better than the CC and Aqua Puss for those, but nowhere near as good as the Malekko), 2290 was really cool, ducked was OK, Toneprint concept was intriguing.

So, I ended up buying the Flashback, and took it down and ran it through the "big rig" vs. the Timefactor. To me, the Timefactor sounded better, but that came at the price of quite a bit of tweaking that I've done to get it there. I think the Flashback was 80% of the way there, and is definately a keeper, both for home use, and also as an alternative for the Timefactor.
