I have a 68 50 watt plexi build lying around here...just talked to Mike and want to send it off for him to do his Jose on it with a foot switchable loop and external bias and test points. Anyone get this done?? Thoughts?

Listened to the clips on his site...gain mod and Kali seem too gainy for me but the jose sounds pretty sweet.

I had a Jose mod done by Dan Gower which I believe are the same. Sounded awesome!

Mike is very capable, the Jose is an upgrade to what you have now ...

I've been contemplating the same thing with my 2204. If/when the funds are available I'd not hesitate to send anything to Mike. First class all the way!

I haven't played the particular mod you're talking about, but you can't go wrong with anything from Mike.

Yeah man do it! I have a Bones mod JCM800 and have had it longer than any other amp. You'll love it.

Picked up a 2203 re-issue with his "Cali" mod a couple weeks back. No added gain stages, but Jose master with 2 foot switchable master vols, Tube effects loop etc. Killer amp!! You won't be disappointed.

And Mike is a great dude as well.

That Jose mod sounds killer
Mike can build anything, and yes, he's a super nice guy to deal with

psychodave would be the one to talk to about it, I've seen clips of him on both a Fortin and a Cameron...I liked the Cameron a bit more, but I thought the Fortin was better for thrash metal or a more modern sound, tighter. But it could have been the way the amps were dialed in or how they were recorded or many other things...I'm sure you won't regret a mod from Fortin in any way.

Ok finally settled on this. The jose has 2 gain controls so Ill make them foot switchable. Also a foot switchable effects loop and 2nd master volume...with the external bias and test points...ok there its done lol

Not sure how Mike is doing this mod now, but on my amp the 2 gain controls are cascaded. You get different levels of gain ( as well as volume) using the 2 masters. Each master vol has its own 3 position switch that controls the amount of diode clipping, and making the master vols foot switchable gives you pretty much a 2 channel amp. I actually turn the diodes off on the second channel to give me a semi clean to light crunch channel along with a killer metal channel. The cascaded gains work more as a tone shaping tool, as they both have a 3 position bright switch. It took me a minute to figure it out when I first got the amp, but it's actually a very cool feature the way Mike does the 2 gains.

Yup...just finished talking with him and thats what he said...the gains work together. He would have to relay out 2 other gains to make them foot switchable and most likely there will be not enough room in the small 50 watt chassis. Cant get too crazy with the extras in this case :aww:
