Trying to compare EVH and Randy Rhoads... Get real.

VH had some cool songs, but not that interesting to me. Basic party rock. Randy was much more interesting to me the way he recorded and crafted / weaved parts together. He was more of a composer. Metal was much different after the first two Ozzy albums. Would have loved to hear the next one, could have been really great.
 
As far as frontmen go Ozz obviously gets the nod

Would come out dressed like a Golden Girl

I think things like Piece of Mind are direct descendants of those two RR albums. Not that Harris and co. wasn't already writing and recording killer metal, but there is a marked difference to me between Killers or even Number of the Beast and Piece of Mind.

They sound like the rooms they were recorded in. Blizzard sounds like a barn, Tribute sounds like an arena.

I always just assumed piece of mind was where the Dickinson sound pretty much took over the band.

I don't find a huge difference in writing style between nofb and piece of mind... prisoner, hallowed be thy name, number of the beast are in the same vane as trooper, revelations, flight of icarus.... to my ear.
 
This popped up on my YT feed this morning. Never seen or heard this before. Some cool playing on it.

 
I guess Randy had his Van Halen-ish band too. I know this track was heavily modified and cleaned up from the original, but I still like it.

Could just be me, but it seems to me Steve developed something different and more melodic as a bass player. Which I guess really might have started on Number of the Beast.

For me personally, all the stuff Ozzy did after those first two albums seemed really lame by comparison to what Maiden and Judas Priest were doing at the time.

Yeah but Priest did Parental Guidance…ugh. seriously though, British Steel and Point Of Entry then Blizzard comes out then Screaming For Vengeance and Defenders of the Faith. They stepped it up a bit Ima thinking.

Those two Priest albums were bad ass.
