One that comes to mind for me is Mikael Åkerfeldt. Highly underrated guitarist with a pretty unique style.

A guy who has gotten really good in the last few years is Dweezil Zappa. Since he's done the ZPZ stuff, his playing has really progressed, matured, very good player now.

Yes! I agree with this very much.
I've seen three ZPZ shows now, and he
has brought his skill level up 10 fold in order
to play his Fathers music.
He's matured into a fantastic musician, his Dad would be proud.

Me.....not j/k

Another vote for John Christ. Really like his playing on the Danzig records.

Whoever played guitar on the first Suicidal Tendencie record absolutely shreds. And this was when in punk rock that would not be expected or necessarily even wanted as virtuoso playing was frowned upon then. Plus it sounds like it's a Strat with not nearly as much gain as we use now.

Markie from Zeke here in Seattle. Ripping Rhythms and blinding leads and can play Skynyrd as well as any of the 1000bpm masterpieces Zeke does. Plus he sings while doing it.

East Bay Ray from the Dead Kennedys...
Yeah John Christ is a riffmiester  My bassist and I were having conversation about him the other day.

Ray is a douchebag although a great player.

At least some one here appreciates their playing...

Chris Poland
Eric Gales
And ESPECIALLY Tim Miller at Berklee. Ridiculous, off-the-charts genius.

Ronnie Montrose
Jeff Tyson-T Ride
Jason Bieler-Saigon Kick
just to name a few. I used to,still do,listen to T-Ride.
To some it might sound like disco, probably to a moron.
But I see them more as a Queen or Extreme type band, rich
sounding and creative, use of many insturments and not affraid
to take chances, though they didn't sell many albums they were
IMO ahead of they're time, and let's face it,radio crams garbage
down our throats like nickle back, and it seems the real talent gets
pushed to the bottom.
I also agree Stevie Salas is awsome, that stuff he did with Sass Jordan
is still in my CD tray. Anybody remember Sass Jordan? She was gonna
sing for Van Halen, for a hot minute.

IMO Reb Beach remains relatively unknown outside the "musician" community despite the fact that the boy can play
