This is what I love about Rig-Talk. I've just been opened up to some great players I did'nt know about. There is plenty of great music out there, just need to uncover it. BTW. Rory G is now one of my favorites and it is because of a thread I found here a while back. THANK YOU

Am gona go all brit on your ass :gethim:

James Dean Bradfield from the Manic Street Preachers. If anyone's interested in checking out there stuff i would go for their first album which is more U.S. flavoured (Generation terrorists) everything after that is more british. no less good but perhaps less appetising to american ears. just remember, he does that and sings

Cool, good to know. I always liked his playing on the first record better than any of the Rocky George stuff.

Actually, i think half this forum thinks Page sucks. I'm not kidding either. Fak em, Led Zep ruled. Although, I've heard every song of their's enough times where i can't listen to them anymore.

Ronnie Montrose
Jeff Tyson-T Ride
Jason Bieler-Saigon Kick
just to name a few. I used to,still do,listen to T-Ride.
To some it might sound like disco, probably to a moron.
But I see them more as a Queen or Extreme type band, rich
sounding and creative, use of many insturments and not affraid
to take chances, though they didn't sell many albums they were
IMO ahead of they're time, and let's face it,radio crams garbage
down our throats like nickle back, and it seems the real talent gets
pushed to the bottom.
I also agree Stevie Salas is awsome, that stuff he did with Sass Jordan
is still in my CD tray. Anybody remember Sass Jordan? She was gonna
sing for Van Halen, for a hot minute.

YES, T-RIDE FUCKING RIPS!!!!! That CD is unbelievable and Jeff Tyson is a monster! I listen to that CD at least once a week, awesome songs, awesome vocal harmonies and killer riffs. He didn't really break out the shred too much, but when he did, look out and the rhythm playing on the songs is wicked.

I think to be more accurate you should put the word "technical" before "player". Remember though, it is ROCK N ROLL. :m17:

Who played guitar on ...
Since I've Been Loving You
In My Time of Dying
Achilles Last Stand
The Rain Song
etc

Are you saying this is basic or simple guitar playing ? The way he uses chord voicing is more complex than most players. This and the fact they improvised way more than most bands ever would.

Here is some live shows http://www.theyearofledzeppelin.com/ .... sure there is some slop .... but going by what most guitar players do he is on top of it as most of them.

:) I can understand if they are not to your taste .... but what do you mean "technical" ? Just curios ..... a few examples from his work would be nice.

I have no real ball in this game .... but would like to understand your perspective ?

Not technical meaning slop (as you stated)

Start listening at 1:50.

All I'm saying is what I said in my first post before nevusofota replied. Page was an awesome writer, engineer and producer. But as a player I always thought there was plenty of room for improvement. We don't have to agree, if you are a Page devotee, more power to you. He did pen some great riffs and songs. As a live player I always thought he was loose and sloppy. Was it alcohol or drug induced? Maybe so, but shame on him for that because it made him look really bad live.

Here's a more modern recording of the same song, better, but in my opinion, nothing to write home to mother about.

Well no one disagree about the fact that he had nights where his playing was not that great.

I agree with you on this. I think his use of voicings/open tunings and melody ideas was truly inspiring. I think too that people sometimes expect Page to have been more like a prog guitar player live who doesn't move much and concentrates on perfection where Page was a true rock n roller and played live like one. He nursed his technical side in the studio and got his ya ya's out on the stage.

All i know about jimmy is that he has a jammers spirit

his jams are some of the best

OK, quit hijacking the thread and turning it into a Page sucks/rock thing!

Uli Jon Roth
Richie Kotzen
Michael Lee Firkins
John Jorgenson
Shawn Lane (but does anyone who knows his stuff ever underrate him? I guess hes more of an unknown great rather than an underrated great).

And that Chris Cross video rocked! A new genre of music - Yacht Shred! - If he can play like that, why did he have Eric Johnson playing with him for a bit?

Love that Jack Thammarat guy:
