Verdict on the Creambacks??

I've been wanting an H for a while. Really wanted to pair it with an Alnico in an Avatar 2x12 but want to get a Blue, not the Gold. Wonder if having two different power range speakers 15 + 75 is a good idea. Granted it will never be cranked on more than what an AC30 would do. Maybe I need to get the gold but I really want to go with an authentic vox speaker in the mix.

I have two Splawn 4x12's, one with a v30/creamback mix, the other with an Alnico Gold/Classic Lead mix. Besides running two amps at once, the v30/creamback cab sits unused. I find the creamback's midrange hard to work with. But I'm also incapable of getting a great sound out of v30's, which seem to be the standard. So I must be some kind of anomaly. I'm more of an Alnico Gold kind of guy

I absolutely love my H-75 Creambacks in my Metropolous True Replica angled '68 4X12". They are the perfect speaker for me, I have had all the previous H types, the Heritage's, the 70th Anniversary, and the Vintage 30's.
These speakers remind me of my original Pulsonic coned 30-H's in so many ways. With my upgraded 2005 Marshall 1959 Handwired head I have found the tone I have been looking for. Sold the two HW cabs I bought with the amp, just rubbish cab construction and couldn't get on with the speakers.

I just got 2 M65s, do they change tone much from new as they get broken in?

Also, I played through both my V30 2x12 and M65 2x12 at the same time, the V30s overpowered. I'm guessing the H75 might be a better mix with V30s.

For that vintage marshall tone the m65 all the way, for more modern the h75. For a great sounding do it all cabinet - one of each!!! My new favorite cab is an open back the same size of the bogner os212 with one of each, so far everything sounds great though a pair of them.

Reviving an oooold topic, but I was wondering if any of you have good experience with mixing 2 top Celestion Creamback H75s with bottom 2 V30s in an orange PPC412. (I was planning to get scumback H75s but those would run me 550e a pair here in Europe)

I've been playing a sevenstring ibanez 1527 (blaze custom) through the AMT P2 (peavey 5150) pedal into the return of a marshall JVM 50w. I'd like to get more of a 3D sound, maybe fill in more in the lower growly mids while sounding big and defined.

Those V30s on its own cut great in the mix but can get strident/dry on their own. I like my gains set moderately low as I lean towards a punchier fuller sound with immediate attack.

If i start messing with the EQ, it's usually either too rounded (bass too high) or too harsh (presence and mid/treble too high) and nothing in-between. The funny thing is that our 2nd player has almost the same set up but he's running the 2X12 orange cab which from some reason sounds more 'full' and in your face. Perhaps it's the perception of V30s in a larger cab such or something. I think a part of that fuller sound of his is due to the fact that i am running a 7string and he's running a mahogany ibanez 6 string in B tuning, so you don't necessarily get all those higher overtones.

thanks for any input. I know that the best thing to do is to try it out and see for myself but I was wondering if anyone's been happy with this mix of speakers. And whether you preferred the x pattern or top/down.

I think the Bogner OS212 cabinet loaded with one of each of these CBs is going to be on my cab list to buy.

I have this exactly, mine are 8 0hm drivers wired in series for a 16 ohm load.

I find that if you are at home practicing and standing right up on top of the cab it sounds "more vintage" or even a little flubby in the bottom end compared to a bogner 4x12 loaded with V30s. That being said I think it has more to do with the difference between the size and speaker placement of the 2x12 and the 4x12. If you step back as little as 7-8 feet and listen to the projection of the sound a little, or sit down on the floor and put your self right in the speakers path like a recording mic might be, they really are a great sounding speaker pair. Still it is a more vintage rock vibe than the vintage 30s, ironically as it were given the names and all. I find the pair to be considerably darker than the greenback loaded cabs I have had but also louder and more articulate tone coming out of them. I really dig this cab.

Beware them G65s.... I know there's a lot of "unrest" with those.

I've held off on the creambacks due to nothing straight up and hard coming out as to sound. BenDuncan, I'm an Alnico50 cat as well - fkn expensive speakers buts damn they are FINE sounding cones!! V30s, G12K100, AlnicoGold and some well worn in P50e (Fryette) are my cabs of tone right now. And oddly enough, the Fryette P50e cab is the one I play the most, followed by my UberKab.

I have v30/Creamback H75 in an x pattern in my Splawn cab. I think it sounds great. I do think the scumback Hs I have in other cabs sound a lot better and are worth the price. I really don't like greenbacks at all. It really comes down to personal preference.

did not care for the 65s at all in my splawn 4x12....i was playing modern rock/heavier stuff though. did not have enough cut or thump to it for me. i have been curious about the cream 75s though.

Had a pair of 65m's in an Avatar cab and it was OK for older classic rock stuff, but the bottom end was to slow / loose for heavier styles. really wooly sounding to me.
Swapped one of the 65's for an Alnico gold and now it's my go to cab to use with my 50watt plexi and Vox HW head when I want that older school vibe.
If you play the heavy stiff, stay away from the 65's.

65s sound fantastic with my Fender Deluxe Reverb Head. not good for my high gain amps. too blurry and not tight in the lows.

Really? I love them, of course I'm mixing with V30's
