Fryette/VHT Valvulator

I just came across one that I forgot I had. I’ve always used one, first in the chain, when using a modeler of any kind, but I’m wondering what it is designed to be used for.

Would there be a benefit using it with my tube amps?

Feels like something I should know after all the years I’ve been playing, but really don’t….kinda like compressors

I´ve plugged straight into a Valvulator for many years, it´s an amp input stage and a buffer. Really doesn´t do much if you always plug straight into a tube amp otherwise, but if there´s pedals involved it makes sure that the guitar pickups aren´t seeing different input impedances depending on what´s in the chain at the moment, and that the signal sees less degradation thru cables, switching systems and true bypass pedals. Basically it preserves brilliance, I guess.

I have mine first in the chain on my pedalboard and use it with my tube amps. It does the same thing a good solidstate buffer would do (high impedence input, low impedence output) but does add a little something to the sound/feel. I had mine on a true bypass switch for a while so I could turn it on and off but I always preferred it on.

I’d like to try one of the new ones if I ever see one come in stock in the uk.
