Got one coming and its got the factory p50's. Ive always been a fan of v30's especially with75's in an x pattern, and was wondering if anyone had tried this or at least compared the 30's to the p50's? I figured the x pattern in a front loaded cab would be similar to the new twin jet cab which I've heard great things about. Thoughts??

Leave the P50E's in there. They are fantastic speakers and have been designed in unison with the cab. You won't find a better match.

+1. Seems like people either love them or hate them. I am one of the ones that love them

P50s work best with VHT amps IMO. The voicings just match up. Otherwise I've hated p50s with anything else.

V30s will be louder, more bold/midrangier and modern than p50s. P50s have a more delicate tone and feel. Sort of like a less sweet but stronger GB.

I had a fatbottom cab for a while and ran a vht pitbull and my Herbert through it.
I wish I had never sold it. Sick sounding cab. I'd be interested in hearing what the x pattern sounds like.

Oh im gonna give them a shot before I oust them, but based on this I think ill be missing something in da mids with the p50's. Ill be running a Fortin bones and right now am running it through a 1960B with the x pattern and it already sounds pretty Damn good, but with the Fortin the front loaded should be even better. I know p50' to be tight but how's the bass?

Tons of lows IMO almost too much for me. I have a hard time getting the mids/mid-highs out of the p50s when they are being pushed hard. It seems to me like that cab is designed to be used with drop tunings????? I play in Eb so maybe that is the reason I like my other cabs better. :dunno:

Those p50s are on the scooped side. For your Bones I recommend front loaded V30s.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. I really like mids for cut and overall tone. I AB'd a bogner ubercab against a carvin FL cab last night and with the bones the uber packed a wallop but front loaded does appear the way to go

This + tax

I would say in comparison to V30's P50E's do have less high-mids but in the fatbottom cab i would not say they are scooped, in fact one of the things that drew me towards the FB was how thick and present the midrange is, it just sounds huge. And it's sounded amazing with every head I've paired it with, 5150's, invader, KK2203, fireball 100, dual rec, mark 5.

It does work best with fryette heads and works great with my axefx/2-90-2 rig but It's definately not "scooped" like you might call a G12T-75 or similar. Sounds thick, punchy and muscular like a greenback on roids.

Sounds interesting. Well I do sorta think the bones shares some tendencies with VHT as far as being tight as a nats ass and very aggressive. Add some marshall to that and maybe a tad more saturation, at least what im hearing. Maybe ill dig em. Just seems like the x pattern will be tight as fuck but have a huge spread.

I respectfully disagree.

I find P-50es to be suitable for MANY amps due to their balanced nature.

I've used P50's in Emperor, Framus, Diezel, and VHT cabs.

They sound more like conventional, every day speakers in NON-VHT cabs. VERY balanced and clear.

I would also say they are scooped, not as scooped as say celestion 75's but they do not have a lot of mids like a greenback or v30..... Its not a bad sound by any means, I have owned both a slant and straight fatbottom cab. I much preferred the straight which also was a newer production cab, the slant I had was an older one. I broke the speakers in on both of them. They can be a bit bright before they brake in but smooth out nicely.

In general the FB cab is very tight and percussive on the lows, has a good amount of bass, somewhat scooped mids and clear pronounced highs. Not a harsh sound but it seems to work better with certain amps especially vhts. I prefer other cabs to be honest, I would rather have one of my Splawn or Mesa cabs but thats just me. I know a lot of people who love those cabs to death.

if they're 16ohm, i could trade atleast a pair of V30's for them, maybe even a quads worths or more?

Cool, definitely keep that in mind once I get the cab.
