Played one recently. Brutal amp. In a room full of them it really stood out to me. Think it'd sound great in a mix with something voiced lower, like a Recto or a 5150.

Doesn't really sound like anything I've tried before. Got me jonesing pretty bad for one; I have the chance to pick up a 50CL with the EQ and a cab. Seriously considering it.

It's a badass, but I wouldn't want one without that EQ, it's really reactive and you can get a TON out of it.

I owned the 50 CL without the EQ back in 1998 and it was a killer amp although I wish I had bought one with the EQ. I used to see a local band in the Detroit downriver area that had one and it sounded great!! Definitely worth it. I eventually sold it and bought a used Bogner 101B. I have been interested in picking one up again or the CLX.

How is the clean channel? And how do you think it will play in a power trio?

I had one many years ago. I don't recall that it had a dedicated clean channel but rather two channels with different overdrive voicings either of which could get clean if needed. Cleans on the UL and CLX were nice (had them both) but I don't remember feeling the same way about the 50CL. I never used the CL with any of my bands so I don't know how it would work.

It's a tight controlled overdrive. Both channels can be clean or dirty. People tend to think of the EQ for the slight heavy scoop but it works really well as a mid bumped lead boost. I like them but prefer amps that get more raw and slightly ratty around the edges.

Great amps. Overdrive is tight. Definitely voiced in the upper mid range but is tight and refined. Both channels can be set to do anything. As clean or as dirty as you want. Both channels can run 3 or 4 preamp tubes, determined by the mini toggle on each channel. 4 gives more saturation and gain, obviously. The boost, edge and shift buttons work accentuate different frequencies of each channel. Very versatile amp. Green channel with all 4 gain stages on and EQ'd right was high gain heaven. I used the red channel for my cleans.

I've had a 50CL, CLX, and a UL. The 50CL is basically a stripped down classic/clx and it's sound resembles them more than the UL. The UL is the one that stands out from the rest of the Pittbull line to me.

I liked the 50CL matched with a fatbottom cab, but I don't think I would ever buy one again for any reason. The UL is a tight, percussive monster. The 50CL just doesn't have that, partly from that small power section. THe CLX that you played falls somewhere in between. Unless you can get it for really cheap (like 750-800) I don't think I'd bother. Like someone mentioned, the UL is so under rated and they can go for pretty cheap. YOu are in a great CL location (probably the best in the country) you will stumble across a $1200 UL eventually and probably not have to wait long.

Those amps really are the best bang for the buck in the used market. Crime they don't hold their value better but good for the used buyer....

Agreed. I have had almost every pittbull, from a 50st with eq up to the UL. The classic is a great amp. The cleans are very good. But the gain has its own thing going on for sure. Prices have dropped dramatically the past 2 years. And they are built rock solid.

I have a 50 CL w/Reverb +EQ. It is an awesome amp and I love mine. It's 2 channels 6L6 tubes. The two channels are fairly similar and not really a pristine clean channel but usable. I use mine as 2 dirty channels. I like it best with a matching FB 4x12 with P50E's. It has plenty of gain, tight and focused and does a great job on VH type of tone. It has nice clarity, even with gain dime'd you can hear individual notes in the chord. If one masks poor playing technique with gobbs of gain and delay it may not be the amp for them as your slop will be exposed ;) .

there is a 50 watt CL with the GEQ on ebay for cheap ending very soon
