Wanna hear a $40K amp?

oh yeah dumble tone-

i've been through my share of amps that do it well-amp wise, for around these hessian parts, for the moolah, the carol ann od2r (and now 3r from what i hear) is cat's meow. it will do heavy crunchy, killer clean, but sings ala howard alexander when you lower gain and crank le amp. ceriatone is cheaper still and more focused on the howie thing but i can't see this fist-pumping crowd embracing that one trick pony.

and man for the money the ethos pedal is stupid good at delivering those dumble crystals at a fraction of the price. zendrive II is also worth note.

To get an idea about who's bashing the amp based on the clips:

How many have actually played a Dumble?

Does it sound good? Yes.

$40K worth of good? No way in hell.

I'm sorry, but anybody who would pay 40-50k for an amplifier is an asshole. Yeah, it sounds good, but 99% of the people out there aren't going to tell a Dumble from a Crate. How about spending a fraction of that on an excellent boutique amplifier, and doing something productive with the 35+ thousand dollars you save? It's like paying 35k to stroke your ego and prove you're a greedy, rich bastard. Jeez, some people... donate to a charity, pay a random teen's college, whatever.

I agree to a point. In a live setting I am thinking a modeling amp is the ticket. Why? You get a great sound out of your amp and the sound guy turns up the gain on your channel til it distorts or he eq's the crap out of it. Or you blend 2 speaker types in one cabinet to get your tone and that sound never gets to the pa. Add to that, almost no one in your audience can tell if you are playing a $40k amp or a kazoo, nor do they care.

I think most of us care because we are nuts :D but that is ok, its a healthy insanity. At the end of the day, if you can afford it and want it, buy it.

Lots and lots of internet rage at a 40k amp, but few bat an eyelash at vintage LP's going for 6 figures?

They're both absurd, but just sayin...

Haha wtf...nice videos...cool effects as well, not that I could ever really use them outside of my bedroom. No guitar amp is worth 40k IMO. But I live check to check

Agreed.

If i had the available funds I wouldn't think twice about it. But that's because they would be special to me. I fully understand that an audience won't hear any difference what so ever, but that's not the reason to buy it in the first place.

Like a Lamborghini or a Ferrari. I don't want one of them to please other drivers or passers by. It's because I want one. I want to own one for me personally, and that's it. If you buy them for other reasons, there is something you should re-evaluate.

Hey Alexander, Can you explain to us what makes an amplifier great?

"well the difference comes down to the this....the more fragile doughnuts can survive on a nice plate, where they seem to be eliminated and squashed inside my enormous abdomen..the physics of it, sugar molecules can survive in my gullet. because doughnuts are tasty. and i eat lot of them, when im not building amplifiers of course." thanks Alex.

OMG... I have tears in my eyes because I am dying over here laughing

That special Dumble tone comes from the bits of jelly donut that fell in the chassis....

that yt channel is hilarious..look up yellow rain and mayonnaise ice cream for starters
This will be going up on my FB page :hys:

the first time i heard that Kaiser guy I thought it was a goof. WHy do you need a dumble if its going to be all synthetic like that ?

So what is the entire story behind this guy? Is he still around? Does he still make amps? Do you have to be legendary to have one made these days? What does he charge today vs what the old ones go for? Or is he content with past profits he made? Everything I've tried to find on the guy just seems like he made a handful of amps back in the day, and just sort of disappeared. Was he wealthy to begin with and this was just a hobby until it got too popular?

You look at the youtube video and it appears he doesn't seem to know too much about how amps work, which is perfectly fine because sometimes stuff like that leads to new things people never thought of.

It just seems so bizarre being fairly new to guitars and coming across this.

By the way, for those of you looking for the real explanation, here it is.

Does anyone know what "song" they play when Dumbo is "speaking"? My son pees himself when hears it and I want to make it his ring-tone.

Thanks.

How bout a video?
vid should be titled "How NOT to use effects"

the (OP) clips sound good but nothing mind blowing by any stretch. If you got the money and you're willing to pay it then fine, but for $40k I'd prefer:
1) any mesa/boogie mark series amp + down payment on a rental house
2) CCV + used corvette
3) any diezel + college savings accts for the kids

but that's just me.

Wow, that picture at the Baked Potato is ancient. That's my buddy Jeff Rivera on the right (next to Dumble). He used to be Robben Ford's guitar tech/stage manager for 12 years. And let me tell you, having known Jeff for about 13 years, that picture is old! LOL
