Want your mind blown? Marshall MS-2 through Recto cab

Ok, ready to have your mind blown?
I'm probably one of the biggest amp whores on the planet, but even I keep telling people to not underestimate the influence of the cab....in fact I think the cab has a WAY bigger influence on the sound than the amp.
want proof?
well, here you go...
A 50% Marshall MS2 through the Mesa Rectifier cab, mic'd with a single sm57, no post EQ, other than HP/LP

so before you buy your next amp, you should probably think about getting some more good cabs
 
Not fair. Your recording skills are off the charts. :rock: You could make a Gorilla amp through a Bugera cab sound great. :lol: :LOL:
 
GREAT THREAD....I have been saying this for years! Good cab = good tone! Speakers to me have way less influence than cabs.
 
I quit.
I have had it with 12 year olds and 1 watt novelty amps kicking my adult-ass with a $$ rig!

Ok, I've been wasting money on pricey amps when I have that little Marshall tucked away in a closet somewhere for the last 20 years
 
I COULD NOT BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!! I have the same MS-2 and quickly after reading this plugged it into my Splawn 4x12 with a bad monkey overdrive and wow......it works and works well, nah works great. Who woulda' thunk!

One of the reasons I use a mostly neutral speaker (EVM12L), and a big advantage or IRs - trying all the possible combinations.
 
I saw you upload this, this morning. I always knew cabs made a huge impact on tone, but nothing this major! Sounds the same quality as all your other clips Lasse, awesome!
 
I'm confused as to why you say it's the cab. Most people are used to hearing an ms 2 through the little speaker.

Put it through just about any 4x12 and its going to sound more ballsy and bigger just because the speakers are bigger and there are more of them and they in an enclosure that gets more low end.

It's the fact that its through a bigger cab instead of the little plastic amp that IMO is a larger factor over the fact that its a Mesa cab.

Mind not blown.

not sure if you got it tbh.

it wasn't really about the Mesa cab, it was about a good 4x12 vs. the built in speakers
 
i was playing my Orange Micro Terror through my Matamp 2x12 with Creambacks the other day with a Bad Monkey and it sounded killer
