Watching a Def Leppard concert on TV sad

Ugh, how do I start this reply? Def Leppard has four phases IMO. The awesome first few albums with the raw riffs when Pete was there and it was all hard rock. Then the Pyromania years when they took off but were still heavy (When I got into them). Then Hysteria period, which was even I was in high school. Dan good songs on that and different but kept a friend with just one arm and made it work. Then the band started to get more pop than hard rock with "Let's Get Rocked", etc. I struggle with the last period. Lol

Def Leppard are like Bon Jovi now and just looking for the catchy country song lyrics instead of rocking out. Fine, have some ballads, etc but show people your roots. I just can't go see that band live. They are not the same band IMO.

Its also hard for me to watch them nowadays. Like others have said give Vivian more solo's and dammit Phil put a feckin shirt on.
No reason not to be proud and flaunt it especially at Phils age. But I agree, the oils got to go.

No disrespect to Phill as he seems like a good dude, but I think he's still trying to cement his place as "one of the shredders" from the 80's compared to Viv who earned that title a long time ago.
As for Viv, he gets to do something he probably enjoys while making a shitton of money at the same time. Sounds pretty good to me

I was a fan for a minute in the very early days. Wasn't a huge fan of the later more popular version. But they get points in my book for making it work for the drummer after the accident. Props to them for that.

Ive seen alot of bands in my time minus Hendrix and some sixties bands. I saw them at UNC Carmichael in 1981 and swear up to that point all I could compare was Zep. They were on like electric, they already had done two tours with ACDC in europe before coming over here. To this day it was one that still stands out

I watched the fuck out of their "Live In the Round" concert VHS back in the day. So good

Phil does have good tone though. If I could play as good as him at age 64 in front of a crowd and hot chicks and be as in shape as him - who wouldn't?

My wife wants to go to the Def Leppard/Crue/Poison show this summer. Uuuugh. I think I'm going to have to just get wasted and enjoy it for what it is.

Huge fan of Viv. I saw him with Def at the last Las Vegas residency. I was in the pit. Viv looked like he was truly enjoying the gig and did play some cool solos here and there...

As long as Def Leppard can still bring it which they can , than more power to them. I'm a fan and would go see them anytime. When they decide to hang it up I will be bummed. They have been making music throughout most of my life through my teenage years till now. Long time. Not to mention I'm a product of the 70s and 80s.

Viv has his Last In Line project to show his chops. Was always one of my favorite guitarists, glad he finally came back around to accepting his legacy in Dio. Perhaps had both not been so bitter while Ronnie was alive they could have reconciled. I think it would have happened eventually but they ran out of time.

As for Def, agree with all above - he's such a better player than Collen it's not even funny but why bother, the paycheck's been solid for over three decades now.
Saw Last in line in 2018 and was at the sound ck, experience of a lifetime! LOUD too!!

Phil's solos and tone are the sound of Def Leppard. Its just the way it is. I'm sure Viv knew he was going to be second fiddle going in. He's a great fit for the band. More of a bluesy player anyway. Even when he's doing the Last in Line gig it's more about the songs than being a shred guitarist. I think he's right where he wants to be in his career. Nothing but respect for him.
Of the most popular era,........................For me and many others The guitar tone and riffs of DL are the Hi n Dry album period. When Pyro came out I cried -where did that tone and all those epic riffs go??

The Impact Def Leppard Has Left Across Recorded
And Stage Music Is So So Huge Its Not Funny.

They Recorded Hysteria Pre Digital.
Many Of The Tracks Have 120 + Tracks Layered
Over Them As They Just Kept On Layering Tracks.

Besides The Fact To Get Anything Near This Sound
On Stage Live Took Huge Amounts Of Audio Engineering
As Well As Bobby Bradshaw's Super Powers.

So Many Audio Inventions Came From Reproducing
Recorded Music For Live Stage Back Then.

MIDI Guitar Switching Systems.
All The Guitar Rack Effects, And
How We Can Reproduce These
Effects In A Few Rack Spaces
Is Mind Blowing, Still To This Day.
Hardware Like Palmer Audio
And Their Masterful Work Persevering
Tube Amp Sounds As This Signal Gets
Passed Around Effects Units, Stage Monitors,
And With Zero Noise As Well.

Then There Is Rocktron & VooDoo Labs
Two of Which Are The Real Original Creators
Of Super Hero Bob Bradshaw Rack Units.

MXR And Dunlap Also Released
Bob Bradshaw Style Of Audio Engineering
Hardware That No One Else Could Produce
On Such A Large Scale.

Digitech And ART Mastered Guitar Effects
For The Masses In Such A Small Amount
Of Time Its Mind Blowing Still To This Day.

It Was Pretty Easy To Get Things Recorded
In A Huge Studio With Racks Of Gear And Mics.

But Reproducing Live On Stage, For Years
On End Took Only The Very Best Minds.

And I Know Def Leppard Did Their Part.
And their first two albums are analog, raw as fuck, and smoke everything else they did thereafter.
