The Mexican Charvels do kickass. I think I had forgot how they play like butter. I played a used one that some guy had for years in his band and it had some minor dings, etc. Was great though because the fretboard had that "broken in" look and feel. I should have picked it up. Guy had put in some locking tuners and came with a case.

I’ve been thinking of grabbing one, too. Only thing is, I don’t think they offer the baked fretboards w/a hard tail...fucking stupid.

What year? I hade a 2016 and 2017 that were stellar. My 2019 dk24 and satchel were pure rubbish. I hope they are getting back to form.

Sick! That a brand new thing?

I have a 2019 Charvel made in Mexico DK24 and it’s well built and plays great. Also have an Indonesia Jackson Soloist SL3. They both put my Gibson SG (USA) to shame. I could add a third one and still be less than one USA Select Charvel or Custom Shop.

Don’t get me wrong would love a USA Charvel (or Jackson) but it would have to wow me like nothing else and almost play itself. ;)

I have had 5 Charvel's over the past 7 years and the MIA felt the best. Played others that were great and some not so much. They seem to be hit and miss but the good ones were awesome.

I had mine for a couple of months and although the neck was awesome and it played like butter, the bridge pickup sounded so damn sterile and bright that I eventually sold it and got myself a japanese made 1990 Charvel 650XL. But the MIM Charvel DK 24 is a very good guitar nonetheless and it's worth the 600 euros I paid for a mint condition one.

I have one USA So-Cal and I love it. The MIM are nice, but hit and miss, and once I got the USA model, the MIM don't hold up. I also have six MIJ Jackson's, a USA Soloist, and three 80's MIJ Charvels. So I have a bit of everything.

If you want a kick ass guitar for $250,get a MIJ Jackson and drop in a gotoh $120 and you have a machine in a half. All of my MIJ Jacksons are gotoh or Schaller equipped and I love them to death. My most recent was a MIJ DKMG that I snagged for $200 then added the gotoh Floyd. I am in the middle of the swap literally at the moment. Also I have the factory trem listed for $50 and the last two Jackson trems sold from around that.

The one thing about the USA So-Cal is that they are OFR equipped, which makes a difference to me.

IMO YMMV, etc.

I swapped the Full Shred (TB-10) for a Custom 5 (TB-14) in my DK24 and it was a major improvement!!!

Dude, I think this one was a baked fretboard with a hardtail, swear to God! It looked so worn in that I wondered if it was a baked one. Does Charvel do baked fretboards with their other ones?

I'm not sure. The guy in the store said that the original owner was in some metal band and had played it for a bunch of shows so I imagine a few years back. Yeah, I don't know why they are so hit or miss. Definitely a "play in person" guitar.

I can imagine it was. From one of the brightest pups to one of the beefiest, yet balanced, without mud in the low-end.
While I haven't tried the TB-14 in my So-Cal (MIJ), it's residing in my ESP Horizon NT-II and I've had it in a Les Paul Custom too, where it rocked.

My take on the Custom-5 is that it was almost like a more behaved, refined version of the JB; less mid-harmonics and brittleness, but more solid low-end, with no flubbiness. A decent amount of output, without reaching ridiculous Invader-like levels, thus retaining some Alnico 5 character. Its split tone is quite useful too.

I have 2 mexi DK24s with the baked necks, HsH and Hss, put friedman HBs in both. I love 'em.

I played a mexi charvel a few years ago and wasn't impressed. Maybe I played the one turd out there , I don't know
