Western Electric tube update

Their 700B tube is crazy pricey but it comes with a 5 year warranty.

Thinking guitar amp tubes do not need to be made to the same standard their 700B is but they should be better tubes than what is available now on the new tube market. Maybe like nos tubes only brand new?

WE said this: “There is a need for better quality. This is yet another major reason we would even consider breaking into the guitar amp tube market. People have grown accustomed to cherry-picking from any given batch of tubes to get the best sound. Along with better reliability, we hope to offer a super low-noise, low-distortion, and consistent product people can trust. Our goal has always been to make the best electron tubes in the world."

“That being said, yes, manufacturing a miniature dual triode like the 12AX7 is significantly easier and less labour-intensive than a 300B, for example.”

I know I'd pay a lot more to support American jobs and not support certain murderous dictatorial regimes..

It will be interesting to see not only the price but the quality too. When you could get them the Chinese 12AX7 sounded good and was reliable and cheap. That's what amp builder's/companies need which is probably where all the volume is. We don't know when and if those will return once they get going again. But that's what you might have to compete against.

FWIW, Rossville is a burb of Chattanooga so right on the GA/TN border. Beautiful country up there.

This was nice to hear. Sounds like they're excited and confident they'll be able to make it work and make it worthwhile.

If I was Matt at EHX right now I’d be shitting a brick. Not only will WE be USA made, but quality will be modernized above what Russian hardware is capable of. If only EHX would come stateside.

I’m curious if any of the environmentally unfriendly materials and methods used to make the classic tubes of old contributed to their tone. If so, what does this bode for the new ones?

They talk about that in the article. No hazardous materials needed to build high quality tubes in the USA.

I know but that’s not what I’m asking. Did hazardous materials contribute in any way to the sound of tubes produced in the 50’s, 60’s etc?

This. I already pay a hefty premium to support gear manufacturers in countries that treat their workers like human beings, and I would correspondingly be willing to do so for tubes.

Matthews attempted to wag the dog and manipulate the market into higher prices, and it may backfire on him - if WE actually goes through with this. The real question is "how quickly can western electric get higher quality, american made tubes into the market?"

No, it’s an apparent game of tolerances and repeatability.

Actually the russian millitary still use tubes...
Do you remember the nanotube from the Bluamps?
That little tube is capable of producing 100w and has a life of many years(more than 10 I think) it was made from reverse enginiring the old 5881 tubes...

My point is that no matter the rigimes and all that shit Russia has revolutionised tubes...

you mean how i treat your girlfriend after a gang rape?

[mod edit]
To the people who're reporting this and demanding the ban hammer:
Try not to be trigger-happy with the report button. Try to always read on for context and / or consequences.

In this case, the consequence was that he was perma-banned.

Leaving this post in-place as an example of what not to do and a demonstration of the consequences.

It can't. It has a solid state power amp and the little tube is between the pre and power amp (like the Vox VT combos) but they worded it in a way that it seems like the little tube is the power tube.

I imagine you were much nicer to her with your asshole all stretched out after that rape.

That being said, I'll believe it when I see it. There's no way they can just flip a switch and start pumping new tubes out.

I was thinking this might be a good time to buy some Western Elec. stock. But I think they belong to AT&T.
