I have an Analog Man modded TS9 which is modded to the original TS808 specs and it sounds great!!!

The Analog Man mods are my personal favorites!

I think a lot of them sound more or less the same with varying amounts of gain... SD-1 if I need gain through an amp that can't deliver the total goods, and TS-808 or bad monkey on an amp which already holds it's own. To be honest , if you lined up every pedal in this thread and did back to back clips on all of them through the same amp, you'd notice very little difference with most of them. Essentially, you could live with any of them. Don't waste huge amounts of cash on an OD thinking it will be the holy grail..

TS808 RI bone stock. Not a fan of any of the Keeley moded stuff...

Rockbox Boiling point for me.....I used the Mason 808 for a long time and searched for something I would like more, tried so many ts pedals..The boiling point is similar to the 808 sound but better clarity and less bass suck, just as tight on the bass with great saturation and smooth mids and highs.

Man... reading this thread is making me wanna try out some different OD's. LOL

It's ridiculous how many OD's are out on the market now. One I am really interested in is the SD 805, but I haven't seen anyone mention it on here. Oh and the new Fender Malmsteen Overdrive. See there are way to many overdrive's.

this. I have several OD pedals and my favorites come down to two cheaper ones: Arion Tubulator and Danelectro Cool Cat OD V2.

Thanks for slapping me back into reality Kapo_Polenton & thunda!
This is the reality check I needed.

For tube screamer type pedals that I typically use as a boost, than I agree with you. I don't notice as much difference with pedals are boosting the amp or another pedal. It's when the overdrive is used as the dirt in front of a clean amp where I do notice a big difference. To me a Tubescreamer shines as a boost and is pretty lackluster as the only drive into a clean amp.

Seymour Duncan 805. For me, OD pedals walk a fine line when it comes to EQ controls. I don't care for the single 'Tone' control but companies that throw in the 2 or 3-band EQ can just make things needlessly complicated. I think Duncan got it right with the 805.

Oh, and while it's not a TS-clone I've been digging my old Danelectro Transparent OD V.1 Timmy clone. I still can't believe I paid less than $40 for that thing.

I have one of those and it is pretty sweet!

I picked up a Cusack Screamer V2 a few months ago and like it a good bit. Sold a MXR CBAOD and MXR Classic OD (the one that has the ZW and GT-OD in the same box) after I picked it up.

I still have a Shiba Reloaded and Koko also.

Most of these TS type pedals sound the same. What makes some better: better components, true bypass, and an extra tone control to dial in the mids.

I've bought (and sold) them all! The Maxon 808 was the best TS clone, if you like that mids on, lows and highs off - type thing. The Duncan 805 sounded pretty much the same as the Maxon.

Right now, I have a Barber LTD Silver OD. Way neutral compared to the TS clones. When I step on my Bad Monkey now, it sounds like someone put a pillow in front of the speaker cab!

I use the Maxon OD808, Way Huge Green Rhino,Ibanez TS9, Fulltone Full Drive 2 and OCD, Tech 21 XXL and Boss SD-1. I use them all depending on the amps I use, but the Maxon and the OCD are the ones I use the most.

Been switching between an OD808 and Fulldrive 2 through a 74 superlead I just picked up and I have to go with the fulldrive with this amp. Tight bottom and plenty of boost and clarity. My other higher gain amps the OD808 is tops.( Just for a boost ). Haven't tried the OCD but can't help thinking it would be good for my setup as well.

You can't go wrong with the Fulldrive 2. You should also try the OCD, you'll love it! Even with hi gain amps!

I always seem to go back to my Maxon od808. there's something about that pedal that I really like, but can't really describe it. Boss sd-1's are great too, and i even like them 100% stock and don't find any reason to modify them other than a simple C6 mod which just cleans up the top end a bit. It's not a must though.

My fav drive pedals (not exactly all TS types, but,,) my Zendrive will NEVER leave my board, next would be Barber DDs, Bogner Blue, Ibanez OD Pro 808, Xotic BB w/MB, Landgraff DB and Paisley drive (no particular order)all tied for second,,  yes I have TOO many pedals.

I've heard great things about the Voodoo Labs Sparkle Drive Mod. That's the next one on my list to try...

FWIW, it's not a true TS type pedal but my bone stock MIJ SD-1 is still my all time OD with a high gain amp. It adds some extra aggression and tight bass without much of a mid hump.

joyo
sparkle drive
cusack
landgraff

in price order from low to high
