The tone/price ratio is in the eye/ear of the beholder.
That's the bottom line. Not sure why it has to be such an argument.
If the tone you are after costs you $4,000 and you have the disposable income for it - then great.
I played through my Splawn, Recto and Vypyr last night in stereo (like I often do) and was super happy with my tone. $1,400 + $495 + $315 = $2,210. Articulateness of the Splawn + juiciness of Recto + added thump of the Vypyr (in the fireplace) = happiness.
That doesn't 'suck for me' - that works for me.
