What song are you working on learning?

Manhattan by EJ

It’s taking an embarrassing amount of time to get it down 😅
This brings up a memory from highschool. I was dating this girl with a great butt and I was watching the original G3 tour on VHS when she came over.
I played Manhattan for her and was like “this guy is great, every note he plays is perfect”

And she’s like “isn’t it supposed to be that way?”

And it stunned me for a moment lol. I said “well yea, but that’s really hard to do sometimes!”

Can't see your video.

Yes that riff beginning 1:28 in @PiggySmallz I play those notes in the first position. Same notes different phrasing I guess.

In the video he makes the riff look easy. I'll try to figure what he's doing.

Or maybe I'll play it my way and move on. I got many more songs to learn.

I put it on Google Drive but it doesn't matter. You're not missing anything

Yeah, the video @PiggySmallz posted shows Joel playing it the way he wrote it and the way it is tabbed. That's a no bueno for me :dunno:

Weird because I should be able to see Google drive link but it tells me I'm not signed in to Google. Definitely signed in because I just checked my email.

I wouldn't spend hours or days trying to get it down if you want to learn a lot of other things. Its a good finger exercise but ive always gotten better by learning new techniques and riffs. It gets me to play more.

How are you hitting that F note on the 5th fret 6th string in first position? Or do you move it back up for the last part of the run?

I first heard it when I got the G3 live album in high school.

Maybe a year later I got the tab book, spent all of 5 minutes trying to learn it before I gave up. I had no idea what hybrid picking was & had never seen anyone really play like that, so just looking at how those intertwined clean parts are executed made zero sense to me.

No time to make a quick vid so I found an old rehearsal video of my cover band. The riff in first position the way I do it at 16 sec and again at 1:12.

That breakdown at the end of Manhattan is badassery. Got a Dr. Who vibe but in a major mode.

Inspiring post. I haven't learn a full track since the last time I played in December 2017.

I should try to get back into. Just lost all inspirations to play the past months. I just noodle and jam over backing tracks.
