what to get next?

i'd ask her if you could just bank the money for awhile. then i'd wait for a really good deal.. or something i really needed. as for professional grade stuff? more recordings have probably been made with a champ than just about anything else you could think of.
 
Upgrade to rthe Kemper or Axe-fx as you said.

Everyone needs a Gibson LP in there arsenal (though may be tough with only $1000, but since you have time this is possible)

5150III if you're thinking tube amp as someone previously mentioned.


However, as stated, the best advised is to probably hold on to the money for now. Especially if you're not currently in need of anything. Wait for that unbelievable deal on a piece of gear that comes along rarely.
 
Take the money and put it under your cab. Leave it there until you want something so much that's it's not even a second thought in your mind.
