But as a 10 year old kid in the late 70s... Kiss Alive II was truly a bigger than life album for me. In fact, my parents didn't care for that and threw my album away. So what did I do? I walked about 5 miles on a snowy, wintery day to my local Gibson's and bought another! They saw they were fighting a losing battle after that and left me to my own devices. LOL...

I'll never understand why my mom took away some of our cassettes growing up. She had Zeppelin, Sabbath, ZZ Top, etc in her collection from her own youth. All that did was make my brother and me find new storage for our GnR, Metallica, Priest, Pantera, etc.

My parents were from an older school. They had Beatles, Monkeys, Dusty Springfield, Gordon Lightfoot, Simon & Garfunkle, Sabicas (flamenco), and Ravi Shankar (sitar) albums lying around. All of which I LOVE listening to [now].

I remember being 7-8 (late 80s) and digging some of the rock on the radio. My parents had an EPIC vinyl collection so I had access to just about the whole history of rock, pop, motown, you name it. Then my parents bought me a bunch of cool cassettes within a small time frame when I was about ten or so:

Queensryche - just about all of em through Empire
Pearl Jam - Ten
GNR - Use Your Illusion 1&2
Nirvana - Nevermind and Bleach
Soundgarden - Badmotorfinger

..older cousins got into AIC, Primus, old Metallica and some death metal, lol.

I'll never forget when my mom brought me to the record store to buy me AIC Dirt when I was 12. Life changing day.

My first album was Cheap Trick "Live at Budokan". The funny thing is that I was supposed to get "Dream Police" but my grandfather made me take it back to the store due to the "nude bodies" (translation: mannequins) on the back cover. :)

got 2 on the same day in late '83 or early '84

ozzy osbourne - speak of the devil (vinyl...still have it today)
sabbath - mob rules (cassette)

Kiss Alive ... Listened to it with my cousin when I was in Kindergarten.
Back in what...1976?
We used to listen to it all day long....

Same here! It cost me $6.22 at Korvette's Department Store. I think the receipt is still in the sleeve.

Very cool. This is how I'd thought my mom would be given her vinyl collection. Oh well, I just didn't listen to Slayer out loud. LOL

You can't front on Dusty Springfield.

45 single of KISS's "I was made for lovin you". B side was "Hard Times" - awesome Ace tune ! Yes, bought in 1979 !

I was 9 and I bought this while at the mall for a Boy Scouts pine wood derby. Parents were not pleased.

Tapes... well, does copied tapes count? My bedtime music was The Wall, Armed Forces (Elvis Costello), Warren Zevon's Excitable Boy, and the Traveling Wilbury's. As for legit albums that were in original packaging, I think the first was Santana's Greatest Hits, followed by Led Zeppelin's BBC Sessions.

Gene Simmons solo album. My older sister bought it for me when I was 7 years old. She was 10.

I'm looking back over this thread, and man is Kiss responsible for corrupting a great many of us!

Cool, looks like I'm not the only one....my first was Megadeth Peace Sells... But Who's Buying? on cassette. My mother(who was a rocker) laughingly said if you do anything wierd I'm gonna burn it lol! To this day still a fav. of mine.

Monster Mash - 45
Abbey Road - was a gift from a friend when it was released.
