What you guys think of Sweetwater?

I love SW. Most customers appreciate follow up (phone calls). If you don't need anything, let it go to vm. Who else calls to make sure you like the product they shipped you? They are probably trying to minimize/anticipate returns? I think it's a good business model, giving the state of music retail. I live in IN and have to pay sales tax(GC too).

Only online place I use. Great service. But the sales guys are knowing less and less about the products - almost felt I called Guitar Center the last few times

Love the Bit O Honey

I buy from them...get the occasional call...occasional email...no big deal.
I appreciate the effort actually.
Free shipping on ANYTHING is nice.
Good return policy.
They have a large inventory...AND will let you know when things you want arrive.
Best online option right now.

Excellent service. Mark Stein is my guy there. All the online dealers should be as good. Great catalog, excellent site, free shipping, 2 year warranty on basically everything.

They are awesome for special orders. Recently worked with them for a PRS Artist CU24, got it in within about 3 months. They had a PRS rep in constant contact during the ordering process. Can't beat their financing options.

You also can't beat their shipping. Last few things I ordered were after 2 o'clock, and they were on my doorstep the next morning.

What I like about Sweetwater is their website has pictures of the actual individual guitars they have in stock. For instance if you want a Les Paul Standard, they might have 5 of that model in stock. You can see pictures of all 5 to pick the one with the nicest top. They also list the weight of each one. If you order anywhere else, like MF, its a crapshoot as to what the top will look like.

I like Sweetwater, but personally I find their sales follow-ups and random cold-calls to be a little overkill. Gets on my nerves sometimes. They're nice about it, but it's too much sometimes

This.

I don't need a follow up call. That's the whole point of buying on the internet; so I don't have to deal with some dick. Just send me my shit, and don't open my box to put candy in it either...

 Who complains about free candy?

I love the financing. Bought my PRS Floyd with 36 month interest free equal payments. I'm trying to get them to start carrying Tom Anderson, so I can pick up an Angel with 24 months free financing lol.

I agree with the guys that mentioned their tech support though. I got my CU 24 Floyd from them and after about a month or so the low E started buzzing when played open and on the first few frets. I had to set the relief to be a little extreme in order to get rid of the buzz, and even then I couldn't lower the action to where I have it set on other Floyd guitars. Set an email to the sales guy and he forwarded to a tech, and then we just went in circles.

Me: I have fret buzz on one string only that comes through the amp. I had to put a lot of relief in to get rid of it, and I feel like there might be something else going on. I still can't get the action real low even with a good amount of relief.

SW: It shouldn't have that much relief. Straighten the neck and lower the action.

Me:  Ok...but that's where I was at before, and it buzzed like crazy.

SW: If it buzzes increase relief and raise the action.

Me: I did that already... that's where we started.

SW: We can reimburse you if you take it to a local tech.

I like their site, never ordered from them. Most of my online shopping was through MF and zzounds. I like zzounds cause of the payments but their inventory kinda sucks sometimes. I'm pretty sure they are the same as AMS but way nicer people and I've heard a lot of shitty shit about AMS and every time I've called they were pretty douchey. I applied for the sweet water card a week or two ago, don't think I got it. lol. If I did I would buy a jackson sl2h in a heartbeat. I like that sweetwater carries mesa stuff too. I've had tons of problems with MF but they always made it right. I returned 6 guitars in a row once cause everyone was damaged. Also bought an orange 4x12 from them which was also damaged but they gave me a couple hundred in store credit. The guitar fiasco actually worked out in my favor cause they let me pick a guitar that was $200 more than the original one I bought. I felt everytime I called they were like ohh no, here's this kid again wanting to return a guitar and have us pay for all the shipping 6 TIMES lol. But If I could get that sweetwater card Id be such a loyal customer haha

Easily the best of the big retailers...they go the extra mile and will negotiate price (I've never payed the catalog price on anything from them).

Funny to hear some of you whiners complain about the follow up...is it too hard to request that they stop calling? We're fast becoming a nation of sackless little candy asses.

I just bought an Iso Cab and got 3 years same as cash... LOL

Unlike MF, Sweetwater knows how to pack their items. Several years ago I purchased a Boss DR880 from MF. It shipped in its original box along with a shipping label stuck to it. That was it! No double boxing or packing materials! The box was partially crushed and the instruction manual was hanging half way out. That was my last MF purchase.

Sweetwater knows what up.

So what's the issue? You have the guitar for a month and it's adjusting to the climate. They're willing to pay for your tech to set it up. What did you want them to do for you?

Agreed. And I've never seen them open manufacturers packaging to put candy in. The candy, in my experience is in the SW outer box. Plus, there are times where they must inspect the actual item. I just ordered a custom finish Mesa Mark V 25 from them. When the amp arrived at SW from Mesa Boogie, they had to open it to make sure the order was correct and the amp was in proper condition.

Also, all the guitars over $200 get an inspection before getting packed.

Great company. They actually train their employees so they know their shit. Good luck with that at GC or Sam Ash, or...
