What's going on with the used market?

If you have to have new you're gonna lose if you sell. Buying used always gives you the best chance to get what you have in it.

The economy isnt hard at all. I just sold a Blackwater for $4500 in a few hours a few weeks ago and sold a Blackmachine as well within a week.

Its because all the people here are trying to sell old man gear + this forums in general are dead. Most guys I know use FB groups to buy/sell. That way instead of dealing with some anonymous internet user, you are dealing with someone who you know is real.

I agree there's more specific micro markets on social media now although there's still plenty of aliases lol. :)

I've heard of these FB groups, what groups are they?

First off, what is old man gear? Second of all you sold two guitars with limited supply and so-called high demand. Wow congratulations.

I think it might be something like this. Old bastard tried to hustle me out of $800
I told him take his old man gear and shove it.

Old man gear is anything with basically no purpose but to try and copy the tone of two albums that came out almost 40 years ago.

The only guitar I have had recently that took longer than 3-4 weeks to sell was my 30" custom bariton V jackson and a CS strat.

Sounds like you are all just not ready to accept the fact that your gear is incorrectly priced and nobody wants it.

Most of the stuff people are trying to sell on this forum are amps and other little things like speakers and pickups. The guitars are meh whatever. And in my eyes Blackmachine Guitars are "incorrectly priced" and I don't want them.

Not really interested in used guitars much anyway. I'd rather buy new if I can.

Incorrectly priced? A Blackwater at $4500. Now that's incorrectly priced, new or used.

Something is only incorrectly priced if it sits there for months unsold. If it was incorrectly price I wouldnt have had 3-4 offers and sold it that fast.

Logic, amazing isnt it?

Well you do have quite the talent for hyping up guitar brands. Didn't you post that the Blackwater guitar sat somewhere between your B6 and your B2 Blackmachine? The point is you are a good used guitar salesman and you have no trouble selling guitars.

I agree the economy is a mess.

But I also think it's getting harder to compete with some of the new product out there. Kempers. Axe Fx. I even think my $450 Blackstar ID100 is pretty phenomenal when you consider the cost and features.

Tube amp market has to be shrinking. It's becoming a very niche market for enthusiasts only.
I completely disagree, after playing a modeler live for a year in my opinion they do not have the interaction and feel of a traditional valve amp.
I think the problem lies with an overly saturated supply of new amps, everyone wants the latest thing which makes it hard to sell the previous latest and greatest. There are only so many amps that the public can absorb!

I disagree that the market is "down". I think the market is about where it ought to be. Musical gear has always depreciated big time ever since I've been playing. Used gear in pristine condition has always gone for about 50-60% of new prices. I don't understands people asking 80-90% of new retail price for something which I see all the time. And then wondering why it doesn't move? The "right" price for something is always what someone else is willing to pay for it, not what you arbitrarily think its worth.

I think the economy may be playing a role, but in 2009/2010, when the economy was way worse, used gear was selling for well more than it is now across the board.

You now have Dual Rectos going at sub-$1000 prices now on a routine basis. That was virtually unheard of even 3-4 years ago--again in a worse economy. New always depreciates, but used, you always had an idea that you could hold your value save some catastrophe. It doesn't seem to be the case anymore. I've made money off of a bunch of used gear in the past--even in the past couple of years, but when I see a Road King selling for $1100... I'm like "Wow." A relatively recent model, great condition VHT Ultra-Lead with EQ languishes in the classifieds at what would have been a steal of $1500. Now it just sits.

I just scored a Roadster for $1100 thinking it was a steal. Turn around and see, it really isn't anymore. I figured if I don't like it (I do though... crap!) I could just turn it around and even make a modest profit. Now I'm not so sure.

Here's hoping that (as a seller), the market rebounds, but not before I buy some awesome stuff!
