Mesa markIII red stripe. I dont play chugga any more, but i miss that amp..
. Ya..once a mkiv or mkiii is properly dialed in, its downright addictive.I've had the opportunity to get this 150-180 watt beast turned up and whoa, lookout, it reeks of high gain..but I have other high gainers too,and I'd love to demo some new breeds too..love that coli red stripe!

Like many others this is a hard choice to make.I loved my vh4 and einy but I really like the thickness of my Herbert..call it personal preference, but even then I somehow managed to find my way back to my Mesa Red Stripe Coil for all things high gain.

I salute your gear choices sir :salute:

How do you switch over to the lead channel? Does the Normal/Bright switch affect both channels? And the clean/crunch switch is only for the first channel? None of the SLOs I've ever played had footswitches plugged into them.

That explains it.

You need the footswitch to change to the OVERDRIVE channel.
Bright switch only affects the clean/crunch NORMAL channel. (see closeup photo above)
Clean to crunch is done manually by a one of the small or mini toggle switches affecting only the 'first' NORMAL channel.

The bottom left mini toggle on my amp (no label next to it) is the optional SCOOP switch which cuts the mids ~ 400 Hz and affects only the NORMAL channel. I rarely use it.

The SLO default channel is the OD. You need the footswitch to get to the clean/crunch channel.

Not necessarily.

Marshall SLP 100 with Caswell mod carried out by Barry Marie. It was everything a Marshall should be.

Mark

Crunch - Friedman Naked and the Roccaforte Jenelle HG100 channel
Lead - Cornford MK 50H II and the CAA SE+ boosted channel

Thats one amp I would love to add to the family!

Still tugged between Rev 2 and Twin Jet Uberschalls. Can't get enough of them.

I haven't played many high-end, high-gain amps, but those are the perfect amps for me.

But the best I have ever heard was Mightywarlock's VH4 hands down. Had a clarity mod or something, you would have to ask him what it was. Never played a stock one but that amp was so good...

Umm...

who dis?

Where'd you play my amps...Kyle's NAMM room a couple years back?

or at my place?

Wait...did I sell you a pickup once?

btw, my Recto is stock #112 made.
and the VH4 had 2 mods done to it, first was just a Dekompression mod, done by Dave F, sanctioned by Peter D, then Jens did his Dekompression/Clarity mod to it, added a knob on the back and made it really electric and come alive with the twist of the knob!
But I wasn't using it...so...sold it a few months ago. Can't remember to who...

I have to amend my original post to this thread.

Granted I still think the 20thX is in a different category than the "typical top high gain head" - it's just waaaaaaay more than that.

But I have to say? The TwinJet's taken the lead for the last few months. I swear it fkn slays

i was gonna say zach's simul-coli :D
we used to crank that thing in the 80s with his original rhoads jackson in stereo with another mark IIb or rack III, a 2290 and a pair of marshall 4x12s----

it had the whitesnake/still of the night- meets -accept/ball to the wall- meets tnt/stryper honk and grind you would die for.

we also had the peacemaker in his rig sounding very wicked too.

..oh yeah,
for currently available stuff. the herbert is ferocious, i love cameron tone, and vht

Best all around with modern features, lots of variety, all great tones... Rhodes Gemini.

The one single tone, one mean voice...

MKIIC with ESP Snakebyte running Het Set pups.

It's a one trick sledgehammer.
