Press 1st fret of the G string with left hand index finger. Fret 15th fret of G string with pinky on your right hand. Tap G string over 8th fret with right hand index finger. There should be barely enough to tap and make a little ping. Anything more or less needs to be adjusted, Simple and done...

How about string height? I use one of those Stewmac string gauge rulers and shoot for .050 on light strings and .060 on the bass strings. But I have a hard time reading the lines and making sure I'm reading them accurately. Need glasses.

I have been taught several ways under the luthier I apprentice under. I have been taught with a proper straight edge and feeler gauge, as well as the 'press on 1st and 19th frets' thing, but as I have developed my technique, eyeballing is what I do 90% of the time.

The only time I use a straight edge is when I get a customers spec. Then that's what I do.

I use the width of a business card at the 12th fret... its about 1/16th

I like high action and usually never need to change it. I just set my action with a 2mm pick on the low and 1.2mm on the high. Check the intonation at the 12 and 19 fret.

I press down the 1st and 19th fret on the G string. I then eye ball the relief between the 9th fret and string. I typically want it to be the thickness of a business card or slightly smaller

Eyeballing it... I usually go for maximum buzz, 0 sustain, and about 3/4" off the neck at the 12th fret.

Neck relief schmeck relief!
