My bandmate just got a MK IV and we are trying to figure out which amp that would fit the Mesa well.

We are playing progressive groove metal. Kinda digging LOG a lot as well as mastodon, tool and others.

Obviously the RA-100 would be cool, but it's too damn expensive here in Denmark.

Would the Diezel Herbert fit? Or others. What do you think? Ane experiences?

My Hermansson-amps doesn't fit in too well right now, sad.

Good question.

Why do you say that your Hermansson amp does not fit in well with it?

The Mesa Mark IV is an excellent amp. I owned one for about 5 years and played in two bands with it. One of them a Metal band. The Mesa has a great sound. I have played with guys that had 5150's,Mesa Boogie DC 10,Marshall. The good thing about the Mark IV is that I didn't really feel it was modern sounding like a Dual Rec. and mixes well with the other instruments/amps in the band.My tone with the Mark IV really stood out. I had several comments on how good my tone was at most of the gigs. I think the Diezel or Bogner or any of those types of amps would compliment the Mark IV. I know the Lamb of God guitarist both had those running at one time and that always sounded excellent also. Regardless of what you decide you really can't go wrong.

yep, back in the day they used Mark IV's. Could be something different now.

You can shape the MarkIV's graphic EQ to dovetail with the amp that is being used with it.

For instance if your other amp has a lot of high mids- lower the 2.2kHz (upper mid) of the MarkIV and slightly boost the 240Hz (low mids).
And also- tame some of the high mids on the other amp by lowering the presence control.

If you're using an amp that has a lot of lower mids, then drop the 240Hz on the graphic EQ and boost the 2.2kHz.

They tried the V and went back to the IV last I heard.

I've read that they also had a Royal Atlantic in the studio for the last album.

I have a Herbert and also had a Mark IV that I used to run together. They complemented each other well.

I'd give the Diezel D-Moll a run. Sounds like the love child of a VH-4 and Herbert!

I would think your Hermansson would work with just about anything. Well.....I guess it could cut through just about through anything.

edit: I was resourcing my reply from this vid you posted.

I will still give both my Hermansson a go when he gets his IV. But would like to explorer my options. And you guys know, we are all gassing for another amp!

:-D

Maybe Engl Savage or Blackmore? How about a Splawn Nitro?

Marks sound good with Herberts, VH4, Recto, Soldano Hot Rod, Rivera Knucklehead.. probably a lot more. Basically any amp that sounds big and isn't boxy or very mid focused or "nasal" (like a Mark) will compliment well.

I would go with a Marshall jvm410js of an engl Blackmore. I think you want something more in the hi gain Marshall area.

I've had bad experiences using a Mark IV live. In my experience, it really does not get along with other amps. If your other guitarist also has a Mark, it's a real good idea though.

If you scoop it to much you get buried, the trick is to not use your bedroom tones at the club. Those settings where the 750 slider is set low won't work live....unless you're the only guitar player.
