Well if the damn tubes on my 3rd Power I just got aren't farting out and dying...

Anywho, I probably need to grab some new EL34s and pop them in. What bias probe do you guys like that makes it easy to dial up all your amps?

Eurotubes one and it’s working well. I also bought the bias probe heads from them to be used with a multimeter but my Fluke was missing when I checked the bias of my 1987x. Now the Fluke is found so next time I’ll use that as well.

Too bad ET doesn't make one that measures two tubes at once, a'la 40-50 watt amps :cautious:

Euro tubes works fine.

Except my tech knows i use it.
When i bring it in for unrelated service i get the infamous call this and that is shot and my bias has to be reset

The when i check it myself the next day its the same damn 38mA i had it at

I think hes just messing with me

you can also get one of those ones that does all 4 tubes at once ..... the only problem with those is .... they don't give you your plate voltage .... so if you don't mind grabbing your plate voltage with a MM those will show you readings on all four tubes at once

The "all 4 at once" device rules. I just don't do it enough to justify the cost. The Pro 1 is great though. Again, if I had reason to do it more than a couple of times a year, I would probably snag one of those.

Class AB "push / pull" thermionic valve amplifiers should be biased in "pairs" in relation to plate voltage.

Do I really need the Pro One that measures watts as well? It's $20 more, and for 2 for my 40 watt amp, that's $40 more if I'm not sure I need it.

I use the Weber Bias Rite. All four tubes at one time and plate voltage :2thumbsup:
I think I was gonna buy one of those years ago but apparently they had issues with them not working right or something and Weber just discontinued them instead of improving it or something.

I’m not sure why they discontinued them. I have two and never had an issue with either.

Eurotubes here, too, and an old Bias Probe from Groove Tubes. I always check bias, even when using the same brand with the same rating. Makes things more consistent.

I have an older Eurotubes Bias Pro One. Very simple. The instructions give example calculations based on your kind of power tubes. If the bias pot screw on your amp is external even better. Otherwise, pull the head shell off and look for the bias pot.
