Which cable do you trust to run your rigs?

For years it was an Evidence Audio Melody cable from guitar into the pedalboard, and then Cardas interconnects when Mark Stoddard owned Lava Cables and I purchased all my cables through him. It seems he has sold the business and is not affiliated with Lava Cables anymore.

Right now I'm looking at the Providence and Divine Noise cables (the latter are made right here in my state) but have not made any purchases. Yet. I'm currently using some Amazon cables that were actually highly recommended, but I'd like to upgrade, and will.

Divine Noise cables are fantastic and sound amazing. Definitely recommend, love mine ^_^

Providence cables are on sale for 20% off for all players in honor of Shohei Ohtanis return to the mound and to spread some love this summer with a nice discount.

Honestly cant go wrong either, both great quality.

Yesterday after some more digging and reading I ordered a PRS Signature 18’ cable with the silent 90 degree plug. As i understand it, it a very low capacitance cable made by Van Damme. But I’m sure I’m not done yet. We shall see.

I use the cheap store brand ones from my local music store. Sound and hold up great.

I got Sommer Spirit LLX for guitar to pedals, pedals to amp and in the FX loop of the amp. A little pricey but not too bad. Great sound! Even in a 20' length I can't hear no loss of treble.

I mean Mogami is pure garbage nvm other cables ranked in the bottom 10 of 79 different cables.......

Any player is better off buying Mono Cables that cost a fraction of the price Mogami do....

Ernie Ball and MXR Cables are also top choice, better quality and cost a song over Mogami/Trash Cables.

Mogami became almost a studio standard because they were offered with EZ-ID which if you are talking about a 24 cable snake was a life saver. The outer jacket was color coded and numbered, the inner jackets were specifically color coded so you would know exactly which cable you were working with.

I doubt anyone in the studio tech business was dumb enough to think they sounded different than other cables. There's a well understood relationship of resistance and capacitance to fidelity, and you can't change that just by changing the name on a jacket

Thankfully there are a lot more options now that arent Radio Shack quality by comparison or relative to others cables now that cost less or the same money and hell there probably were back then too but people didn't know any better :dunno:

Did the periodic table of the elements or ohm's law change in the last 30 years or something?

To me the big deal today are the jackets. They can make really supple, yet coilable and durable cables now that aren't just a long line of unrollable kinks

Is there any place for solderable really small flat jacks like on the Ernie Ball patch cables, but that you can take apart if need be?

I love this style but I want to make my own lengths. The Squareplug brand is a lot wider, so won't fit as easily as these types do

If you're doing whole pedalboards or racks it really is worth grabbing a spool of decent cable and connectors and just solder them up yourself. Cables are the easiest soldering there is and so long as you pay attention they should work out fine. The big advantage is you can customize everything for length/connector that way. I've gone through Redco for most cable needs, professional and personal, over the last decade or so.

I love my EBS Gold cables. I use them almost exclusively (with a few Mogami/Rean, Rattlesnake, etc) on all of my boards.

I bought a pair of Monster Performer 500 cables for my Strat, back in 1996 (for the front and back end of my rig, and used them for years, on countless gigs, with no issues. They always delivered. They look somewhat tarnished, but still do the job.

Monster made these insert cables, and I had four 1-meter (used on my old 1604 VLZ analog mixer effects sends/returns), and 4 4-meter (some of which were used to run my stereo effects from the amp to the board and back. Also, never a problem, except for one of the 1-meter return cables that had a faulty connection at the plug. I walked into Guitar Center, and they swapped it out with a new one, no questions asked. Had to fill out a brief card, but that was painless.

All of these cables still work flawlessly. They must be doing something right.

I used many different brands of microphone cables, but I came to really love Canare Star Quad cable, using Neutrik connectors. They came in multiple colors and were extremely flexible, reliable, and quiet. Again - they worked beautifully, day in and year out.

But what I probably used the most were Spectraflex cables (Original, Vintage, and Fatso Flex Series), and those, to me, have been flawless. Never a failure. Well....I did have a vintage series connector (which I think was was brass...?) go microphonic on me, and I contacted Spectralfex and they quickly replaced it with another one, free of charge.

I kind of amassed a large selection of these cables since, when I wasn't gigging, I used to do sound jobs for small bands on some evenings and weekends.

The color-coded jackets really made it easy to trace down a cable - aside from just looking cool LOL.

I've had many of these since the mid-90s. They just work, and they sound great!

These little 10-foot cables were just purchased from Spectraflex. I see they're still using G&H plugs on these ones. I love those plugs. Rock solid construction, and these cables come in an almost limitless choice of color and jacket pattern. It's mind-boggling.

They're not cheap, but you can expect them to sound great and last a lifetime. Spectraflex customer service is stellar.

Switched over to rattlesnake recently. Build quality is killer.
I actually own one of their little insert cables, that I use to run conventional TS (left and right) to a TRS stereo output of a one pedal into the TRS input of another.

It was given to me, included in the purchase of a used Strymon DIG Delay, on TGP, by the seller. Great guy. Prompt shipping, pedal was flawless - and so was the cable!

Top notch sound and construction on these cables. I'd gladly try more of them out. I admit, though, that I kind of prefer super low profile cables on my boards (for the most part), since board real estate is usually at a premium.

The design of the strain relief on those Neutrik Golds is outstanding. Killer design and implementation on those. I recognize them anywhere :-).

Have some of them on some odd XLR/M and XLR-F Monster (?...can't remember)) cables that I used over the years. Rock solid construction.

I use the EBS cables on my pedalboard.

Over the last couple years I’ve slowly replaced everything in my studio (a shitload of cables) with cables from Castline.

It’s a little shop in Ohio that makes cables using Mogami wire. They offer Silver (Mogami 2582 wire) and Gold (Mogami 2524 wire) in just about any length and connector you need. It’s a fraction of the price of Mogami.
