Who’s tried Karnivores?

With the immediate commercial successes of the Mick Thompson DV-77s and now the Kristian Kohle Karnivores, I sense many more artist/producer collabs in Eminence's future
I Mick Thompson knows what's up..... Steve Stevens would be an amazing collaboration partner.

I could see them making bank on a Tim Henson model or something too maybe especially if they are working on a new album or something or tour.

Maybe a Tomo Fujita Blues/Clean speaker or an Ola Hi Gain/Chug speaker :dunno:

Anybody compared the 8 v 16 ohm versions?
Is it the normal story where the 16 ohm version sounds more scooped than the 8 ohm version?

Im thinking of trying a Karnivore mixed with a UK V30 in a 2x12.
Anyone try this combination?

How long did these take to break in for folks? and how much change did you notice?

I just got one and put it in my Emperor OS 212 with a Mesa V30 and think it pairs pretty well already. V30 covers the highs and the Karnivore has the lows and is still pretty clear.

I had a quad in my Splawn 4x12. I was super excited to hear them. They didn’t wow me at all. I sent them back to Sweetwater immediately. I should have tried them paired with V30s.

Wow you’re the first person that has really shot them down. Im really interested in what you heard that sounded odd? What were you playing rig wise?

I had the same experience, and sold them shortly after I got them.
They had that dark, soft, murky characteristic in comparison to Celestions that’s turned me off of every Eminence I’ve tried.

I really like the Karnivores, but yeah, all the Eminence I have tried are darker and more broad than Celestions in general. Another way you could say that though, is that most Celestions are more bright, crispy, and honky compared to Eminence. 😀

But Celestions are the standard. 😉

Yeah, they are kind of the standard sound you are used to hearing. However, I find Eminence to be a good alternative if you are sick of that sound, or part of that sound annoys you. For example, I cant really stand V30s.

I have been playing G12T-75s a lot lately, which is one of my favorite Celestions. I plugged in my Karnivore cab yesterday. It is definitely more flat, and kind of "blank canvas" you EQ to, instead of EQing around the more extreme EQ of a Celestion, if that makes sense.

I think I'm finding the Karnivore to be like a V30 with more low mids and no upper mid spike. Kinda like they inversed the EQ curve or something.

I played my Bogner Snorkler 50 and Gower Modded 1982 JCM 800 Killer Kali ++ on the Violence Mode!. Guitar - Luxxtone El Machete with a MCP Angel Dust pickup tuned to E-flat.
It sounded like the mids were flat with no aggressive. Lots of lower mids in this speaker with some low end with a little top end. I just didn’t jive with them. I wanted to like it. Maybe it is an Eminence thing. I never played through those speakers. Mainly a Celestion fan. Had Scumbacks too

I have the V12, Karnivore, and Swamp Thang. They all have that characteristic. More lower mids, less upper mids, and more of a clear presence. I think they actually have more clear presence than Celestion, but sound darker because they dont have the upper mid spike. They sound way different if use are used to that V30 nasal quack.

I am mainly a V30 and Greenback user. I was so stoked to try the Karnivorne’s out. I guess Emenince speakers are not for me

I have the EVH cab with the EVH Greenbacks, and have used V30s. They both have that Celestion nasal honk, but at different frequencies. All the Eminences I have used are very different because they dont have that. They tend to be more broad and flatter.

My favorite Celestions are the G12T-75 and G12K-100.

Tried one with a greenback, well my Scumback M75, and I think it pairs that even better than a V30.

I get the complaints about it being dark but it's thickness compliments bright speakers so well.

Anyone know how close a Karnivore is to a P50E? IIRC Kohle did a deep dive on the P50E just before he did the Karnivore project with Eminence.

I have a 1960A with 2 Marshall branded V30s and 2 P50E and, maybe I'm just half deaf, but I think it sounds better than my previous V30/T75 blend. If the P50E is similar to the Karnivore, I could see it pairing well with a bright Celestion

I don’t really feel like they’re close. I know Kohle sent his early 00s v30 in to eminence as a starting point and went from there. My karnivores vs v30s I feel like have a bigger low end, and more 3k bite but roll off sooner in the high end… if that makes sense.
