back in the very early 2000's, i made a post on Harmony Centrals guitar fourms asking who the BEST fret guy in America was. From that i got put on to Micheal Tuttle, who refretted two of my 70's gibson lps with ss frets, did re radius work to the fretboard, and those guitars played flawlessly and didn't need a set up for like 5 years. it was unbelievable. sadly, those guitars are gone now, but i have my trusty 08 gibson explorer that desparatly needs a new nut, the frets need some major love. i want ss frets, and i want someone who is not just good, but like "the best". i'll pay good money to make this beat up guitar have a Tuttle quality fret/nut/radius job, becuause i got the guitar for like 700 bucks, and it sounds amazing. explorers are really sleepers. they're everything you love about a les paul, but with a flat top (better for palm muting precision stuff), 6 in line tuners (better for tuning stability, no g string drama), and its all dark tone woods. its the perfect metal guitar apart from gibsons lackluster, "50's era" fret work.

So whos the guy i need to contact?

i could get a standard refret and nut job from some local guy for a few hundo, but i want THE BEST in the states. Who dat is?

Pete Skermetta at rockit science guitars in Austin is great. Former master builder at James Tyler and I think he does some building for Collings. Had two SS refrets done by him and couldn't be happier.

Before reading your post, I was going to suggest Pete.

He’s DEFINITELY the guy to go to for this.

I took a job to a local guy here in Cleveland named Bill Jancar who worked at the First Act custom shop under luthier John McGuire. Pretty sure he followed him over from Gibson when that was a thing. Dude has 25 yrs experience and he did great work. I don't know how he ranks nationally, but he's one of the best in the Cleveland area.
