Will "plug in and play" make you a better player?

Most definitely will.

Just play clean with zero effects or gain for a week and note the difference. Shit, practice on an Acoustic with 12 gauge strings and note the difference when you hop back on an electric.

Guitar into amp with the gain as low as possible, but still slightly crunchy with a touch of reverb. Use the guitar vol to clean up for rhythm chords. Play that way for 3 months and record yourself. Play the first weeks recording back and see for yourself after 3 months how f ing better you are. How you now rely on your guitar vol for gain and your hands for sustain and vibrato than some box that didn't even exist when the greats from the 50-60's were recording.

I like rigs that when you hit one note a million lights go wild.

I like to plug in and play, not because it makes me better, but because it makes me audible, unless the power's out, or I don't turn the gear on. In those cases, I'm not sure if plugging in or not, makes a big difference or not. I have a sneaking suspicion, but I'll have to try it to confirm.

Lights are good for the eyes. Unless you're looking directly into an atomic explosion, the sun, a spot light or... Man Benadryl can be interesting.

If I would've known it was going to be this kind of party, I would have put my dick in the mashed potatoes.
