Who wires their speaker cabs using only the steel clips and no solder?

  • I never use the damn clips. What do you think I am....nutz?!

You'll never notice the difference in sound. And you'll never rock so hard that a lead comes off a speaker. I'm sure there's an exception, but probably because of someones else's error.

That said, my wires are 14g soldered. It's a royal project to swap speakers. But I think I found what I like.

If you want a real project, mod your jack for stereo/mono, and/or different impedance's.

Thanks for the participation to-date, folks. It seems like it was actually a topic of interest to some others around here.

Anyways, based on the responses received and consistent with my past practice, I will in fact be soldering my connections when I finish wiring the new cab this evening.

I solder and Monster wire every cab. I thought it was all hype until I did my first cab with Monster speaker wire. Like taking a blanket off the front of the cab. No substitute for a nice thick copper signal path properly secured.

I use EVMs and they have those push in deals where you push in the plug and thread the wire in.

I'll use the clips if they're there, but will solder over the top of them.
