You never played a Wizard and want the most vicious amp ever made, do you want a MTL II or HR?
My ears can talk and said those are both garbage next to the MCII.You never played a Wizard and want the most vicious amp ever made, do you want a MTL II or HR?
I know this doesn't mean much without both amps being tested in the same context, but here's a clip to show an example of how mean I've been able to dial the HR to sound.
I don't have any personal experience with the MTL, and I'm not 100% sure about what part of the sound you mean to emphasize when you say viscous, but in every clip I've heard that directly compares the HR and MTL, the HR does have a little bit more slice/cut/clarity in the top end. So if "sharpness" is what you're thinking when you say "vicious" then I think the HR edges out. But if low end chunk is more important to you, it might be a bit tougher to recommend one amp over the other because both amps have insane low end punch and will easily get the job done.
If it's more about the character of the distortion, I'd say the HR is going to be slightly clearer and the MTL is going to be slightly thicker.
Beta StrykeSomeday if possible a Modern Classic II is on my list.

How many have you tried and what were their wattage/tube types?Between MCII, MTL and HR. I kept the HR. But only EL34!
Yes, and the MC as well.Do the Wizard MTL's and HR's run diode clipping? I'm curious?![]()
Yes, and the MC as well.
Also, "I only buy American!" while their American built amp consists of Chinese PCB boards, Korean caps/resistors, and transformers made by Pygmies. My favorite thing about gear forums is all the people who say they hate diode clipping but then have 8 Wizards.
