Celestion G12M-70. I had left behind four of them in a car I sold. The buyer asked if I wanted them back- I said he could keep them as ash trays and strip the magnets off to use as fridge magnets.
Well, this thread certainly isn't going to help me sell the quad of M-70s that I have in my basement
I never liked the speaker for raw, rootsy tones, but I felt they did a decent job with high gain processed tones as long as you dialed in your sound to account for the characteristics of the speaker.
Probably an unpopular opinion here, but I've never been able to make the Scumbacks work for me. Not that I would say they're the worst, but compared to some of the well worn-in Celestions I have, they always sounded a bit nasally and lacked "air" frequencies.

Which era of Scumbacks is supposedly able to 100 % nail the old pre-Rola Celestion tone again ? I thought the old ones were purported to do as such, but then the new ones are even better ? I'm confused

The new ones are supposed to be more consistent than the Weber built ones. Some of the materials and obviously the process is different between the two. I think its a valid question as to which version MagicEight is referring to.
I have a couple of weber built scumbacks that I like, but it doesn't bother me that they didn't work for someone, just asking a bit more info. As I am considering trying some new scumback blackback H75's at some point.

They were Weber made, so who knows? It certainly wouldn't surprise me if the newer ones are more consistent / higher quality, but then again, the ones I had were also what everyone claimed to be "as good as or better than the originals". For reference, I had two quads of M75s (one 25W and one 65W), a quad of J75s (65W), and a pair of M55s.

In the end, this was one of the factors that drove me to finally give in and buy a pre-Rola for recording (got extremely lucky with one that sounds fantastic). Wouldn't go pre-Rola for live use, of course (wouldn't want to risk damage to them), but I've been hard-pressed to find better speakers than what Celestion's making.
