Wow.........just discovered the OCD !

Had a chance to mess around with one a few years back. Keeps alot of bottom in the tone, but also keeps it tite and controled. Ive been looking for a good deal on a used one for a couple years with no luck. It seems nobody gets rid of them. I just ordered a Danelectro Cool Cat Drive pedal the other day. They are suposed to be close sounding to the OCD.

You just run a 18v battery instead or is there a mod involved?
You can also use the voodoo labs pwr supply, and it comes with a cable that jumpers 2 9V outputs to 18V. (pedal pwr 2 plus) The voodoo cables are all the same length though, so its a little tricky if your trying to cover a lot of real estate. I had to get all my powerd stuff near each other. my board(s) are a mess, but it works for me. I dont move it

Man, it's a good thing you don't move it...if you gigged with that, I'd feel sorry for you or your tech :D Makes me think of the crazy massive pedalboard buddy from Mars Volta has....

Oh and how dare you take the little alligator off, of all things ;)
    I never had a tech. I havent used that little alligator more than 30 minutes, the sweep on the pedal is to short, cant stand it :( Its well made, but it just sits there

Whew! Now, those are BIG boards. ;) I'm fighting pedal explosion here!

Anyone use an OCD with a Vox amp? (AC15, AC30, AC50, AC100?)

How does an OCD compare with a Tim/Timmy? (my last dirt boxes were an EH Big Muff Pi and MXR Distortion+ purchased new in the '70s; used through the '80s until I switched to rack gear. I still have these pedals at my parents house, probably rusted to sh*t by now though...so the new pedals (and there are soooo many dirt pedals) are very new to me)

There are a few threads doing sound tests between some of these popular pedals on TGP, don't have the links off hand but perhaps a search might help find one. When listening, I liked both the Tim and OCD, favoring the Tim just a hair, both sounded great and I am sure amp guitar will have a big effect as well. OCD sounded very nice and stood up to some of the other botique pedals people always talk about

I love my v4! Now I need to try some Wampler pedals. The Pinnacle sounds friggin amazing on some youtube vids.

Brian ( Blackba ) has a vox, I'm sure he has some boost experience with it, maybe he will chime in, or you could pm him

I am using a Timmy with my Vox AC50, I use a HBE Plank Cranker for medium gain stuff. The Timmy is great, it seems to retain the amp sound, just adds some grit. It works great for amps where you don't want a mid boost like you get from a tubescreamer. A Vox + tubescreamer is just too much mids IMO. I used to run a Digitech Bad Monkey, then switched to a MI Audio Blues Boy Deluxe, and then the Timmy. The MI audio was more in the tubescreamer area, but could be dialed in to sound good with a Vox.

In general for a Vox, this is what I see recommended. I think probably any of these would work for your AC4TV.

- Fulltone OCD (kind of surprised to see it compared to a tubescreamer since it is very often recommended for Vox and Marshall amps
- Crowther Hotcake
- Digitech Bad Monkey (nice cheap option)
- Timmy or Tim
- Xotic BB preamp
- Xotic ACbooster

I have wanted to try an OCD for a while now, but I have more than enough dirt boxes.

BTW on your old Big Muff Pi and MXR distortion+, those are probably worth some money now. Especially the big muff, depending on what version it is....

too much bass in those OCD's, never liked them. Tim/Timmy? just more overrated TGP hype pedals that reminded me somewhat of the Fulltone drive characteristics.

So what is your overdrive of choice since you don't seem to like the OCD or Tim/Timmy?

I've had an OCD on my board for the last 4 months. I love it. I use it a lot with my Mesa Lonestar on the clean channel. Sounds much better to me than the Lonestar's Dirt channel.

I also use it with my Rebel 20 when I need lots of dirt and the ability to quickly switch over to clean.

such a killer pedal! Def a big bang for buck, i love mine!

I may go this route with the AC4, I like my JangleBox with it too; however, I'm starting to GAS for a large Vox amp (like an AC100CPH, which has a high gain channel (along with an AC30-like TB channel)). I'd like to get a boost/overdrive pedal that I could use to push the clean TB channel to overdrive, and push the high gain channel from overdrive/distortion to lead tones. Just thinking out loud, as it will take some time to get the gear fund rebuilt after I decimated it with new Rics. ;)

I've heard good things about the OCD, Tim/Timmy, BB and AC to push a tube amp, even the EH LPB-1 for that matter. I'm not a high gain person, but I need several tones from an amp (clean, crunch/overdrive, distortion, liquid lead) to make it work - with the two channels on the AC100 + the right dirt box, I should be good to go...I think?

I figured my old stomp boxes from the '70s (I have an EH Small Stone, Screaming Bird, Golden Throat II, Big Muff Pi and probably some others; MXR distortion+, MicroAmp, probably some others) but they've been boxed for years, and several moves into several basements, attics etc., so I doubt they work. How can tell the model/series numbers or dates? Any good sources on the web that could help me date these? I'd likely sell them though I may keep a few if they are working!

I've experiemented with the OCD in a variety ways, even with a couple different versions. Honestly, i only use as a clean boost, but with single coils i like it but just with the level knob turned up and a low/moderate gain setting. For some reason mine has way too much bass, so i literally turn the center EQ knob completely clockwise. If you were to have a tube screamer sitting next to it, even better, the sound will cut like a knife with a mid boost through a live band mix yet feel spongier than just the normal tube screamer compression boost. I usually switch between the Grey DOD250 overdrive or the OCD for the same purpose..but the DOD GREY 250 still wins when it comes to true, organic transparent gain boosting. especially though a classic Marshall amp... IMO .

I would post some pictures of your pedals over on TGP effects forums and see what they say. I am sure there are some vintage effects fans that should know what these pedals are worth and how to date them.

A couple of comments on the AC50CPH/AC100CPH, if you get one leave the fat switch off, it makes the amp muddy. The Distortion channel does respond well to a boost and I think any of the pedals I listed earlier would work well. Also, as an FYI the Vox guys over at the plexi palace get tweaked that the AC50CPH and AC100CPH used the AC50 and AC100 in the names since they are not reissues, so just be careful if you are posting over that that you add the CPH to the name. I don't care, but I have seen them get on people. I think most Vox fans are wishing for a Vox AC50 and AC100 reissue....
