…one of those days? Or couple of dayys?

Stick with me… 😀

I alluded to a new roof and gutters in another post. The roof was finished yesterday mid-morning and the gutter team moved in. Everything was going well. They were using an outlet on the back of the house and finished that area. They threw the extension cord over the house (no external outlet in front…) and kept going. The outlet went dark. It was raining, shit was wet, etc., so i assumed a breaker tripped. I flipped every 110 breaker in the panel. No Dice. Fuck… gave them
power from an outlet in the garage. Figure it out later… Today, I tried again. No luck. I needed to cut up an old water softener tank today (long story) and since I didn’t have power on the back of the house where the tank was sitting, I ran an extension cord from inside the garage. For context, the garage for this house was added ~20 years ago and has a 50 amp feed from the main meter box. I clicked the trigger on the Sawzall and had power for a split second, then, nothing. Fuck. Again… There’s a separate panel in the garage so I flipped every breaker (repeatedly). No dice. Two outlets, one that the garage fridge uses, and the one I was using are dead. There’s a GFI that is possibly inline (the installer’s panel markings are shit, so not sure…). The GFI had power, but I reset it anyway. The garage and the house are on separate panels. There is literally no way that the issues are connected, other than they are electrical issues. I took the panel cover off in the garage and there is nothing obvious. Two weird, can’t be connected, electrical issues at the same time. Great… breakers almost never fail (that’s their goal in life) but?? I’ll break out the multimeter tomorrow when I’m in a better mood and figure it out…

Hire a licensed Electrician for best results. You could burn your house down.
I doubt even in small claims court you could re-coup cost from the gutter sluts even if you could prove it.
50 yrs in the trades ive seen my share.

Sounds like your dropping a phase.
Open main panel and check the 2 big wires at the lugs.

Also check the ground lug to see if its tight

Phase to phase you should have 220
Then
Phase to ground you should have 110

Unless one of the lugs are loose your going to need a pro.

Also problem can be at the Meter connection or up the pole at the bug connections

If you have aluminum wiring look for green corrosion

Checked it all… it looks to be a more isolated issue. I’ll dig in tomorrow to figure it out (motivation is lacking and we’re having storms today). If not, I’ll call a Sparky…

I'm lucky. One of my best friends is a Journeyman Electrician. Stewie actually for IBEW 1, which the fat piece of fuck up there knows nothing about. Any time I have issues I get him down here. He helped me re-wire the entire house in 2017. It's good to have friends and considering I've actually been in the trades for 40 years, I know people that do just about everything.

Fuckin' Dan. Jesus Christ.

My kid is my electrician....wired the whole house so if it burns down it's on him for not having much of an inheritance.

I know just enough about the trade to keep from killing myself (although there was a damn close call…). Remind me to tell you about the time a 208 3Ph outlet box exploded over my head and left scars on my back…

I’m thinking it’s an issue between the panel and the outlets. In the garage, I’m certain they are in sequence, so the issue is between the panel and the first outlet. The other is collateral damage. For the outside receptacle, I’m not sure…

The joys of home ownership; amiright?

I've had to deal with some oddball repairs over the years, but luckily I haven't had any major electrical problems to deal with. Hopefully you can figure it out and get it all situated without too much extra trouble.

Most homeowners are or become capable of taking care of basic repairs themselves.
Most people lack fix-it skills big time these days. I did some side work as a handy man/general fix it guy for a while until I got sick of dealing with people. I did anything but electrical. That could've quickly spiraled into 100 hour work weeks especially since I already own a truck. I told most people "no" and got out of it altogether so I could finish my own house out.

Just because you're too stupid to take care of basic home repairs yourself doesn't mean everyone else is. Most homeowners are or become capable of taking care of basic repairs themselves.

Anything you say asshat.
