I liked Bloomfield better with a Les Paul vs his Tele.
As an aside, I was always on the Clapton side of the Clapton vs Bloomfield rivalry. A guy whose playing I really respected said I reminded him of Bloomfield (well maybe Bloomfield with a broken hand - lol). I really would have preferred being compared to someone else. Shrug. I guess you sound like who you sound like even if they aren't one of your favorites.

I'd agree with your assessment. He sounded his best with the '59. I do think he sounded pretty cool on the first Butter record. Mellow Down Easy would be a bitch to nail down that solo note for note. But I dig Clapton and Bloomfield both in terms of blues playing, no real preference to one or the other. I do think Mike was one of the guys who sounded the most like BB King when he wanted to. When we were a "blues" band right around when SRV made blues cool again, we covered 'Work Song' ala Butterfield.
I have a tenuous connection to Butterfield. Years ago I bough a well worn 63 Strat from a guy. After the money changed hands (not much back then) he told me "oh by the way, Butterfield borrowed and used that guitar for a 'back half' gig at a local blues club". Hmm. Since he told me after the sale happened I sort of think it may be true. If he had told me before, trying to pump the guitar up, I'd have discounted it as bullshit.
Either way, it doesn't make the guitar any cooler, or me, any cooler. Just a story.

Blues has always been cool it's just that now there is a proliferation of bad cliche blues bands, and even worse, a proliferation of horrible cosplay-like solo acts. It's disgusting. I'ma share a track I enjoy with you:
