You guys/gals with the Friedman Phil X

I played one for a few minutes in Axe Palace and felt it was way more my thing than other Friedman’s I’ve tried. I’m a huge wizard fan and it was slightly in that direction compared to others I’ve played

Agreed. I owned a Phil X at the same I had some Wizards (as well as a lot of other amps lol). It was more open and better to me than many of the other Friedman's, but still overall fell short to me vs some of my other amps, so I traded it off at the time for a Cameron modded Marshall

I just jammed my 2204 and X back to back with a drummer. To me the X is basically an idealized jcm800 hit with a boost. I think it’s a more pure and better sound since it’s just guitar going into amp. There’s also more options and it takes pedals very well, too.

It’s a bigger sound than the 800 but at volume I need to back the bass off to fit right in a full band. It also cleans up better with the guitar volume knob. Both are amazing and sound like a rock concert. I just dig the X more since you get an amazing boosted jcm800 sound from the jump that can be further shaped with pedals for flavor.
