this one introduced me to eric johnson's playing for the first time (go to 10:50)

my sister had this album on when i was in high school, and when this solo came on i was frozen in my tracks.
i had just read an article on ej in GP magazine prior to Tones coming out, and this blew my mind. in that article ej cited bill connors on chick corea's return to forever/hymn of the 7th galaxy as a huge influence, and it turned me to ted greene as well.

all in all it totally changed my attitude towards lead guitar playing.

One of my favorite (and most influential) solos that I definitely consider melodic is Alex Lifeson's lead break in Red Barchetta.

totally agree on this one. The whole song is F'ing incredible. the playing, the different tones, the vibe..... IMO one of the best songs of all time
