Forgot to mention Tom Scholz. Just about any of his leads from the first two albums.

I'm going to try and bring some solos to the table that haven't been mentioned yet:

Still Loving You... Scorpions
The Deeper the Love... Whitesnake
The Ballad... Testament
25 Days From Home... Loudness
Find a Way... Loudness
Sweet Child O' Mine... Guns 'N' Roses
In the Wake of the Weary... Evergrey
Dream Evil... Dio
Images... Cacophony
We Will Rise... Arch Enemy
Underworld... Adagio

For the Love of God - Vai
Watermelon in Easter Hay - Zappa
Firth of Fifth - Genesis/Hackett

I got boatloads more...
Mo

personal favorite of all time - So Close, So Far Away (whole tune) - Derek Trucks

Flubby audio, but you get the point:

Sweet dreams by Roy Buchanan

Albatross by Peter Green/Fleetwood Mac

Whiter Shade of Pale by Arlen Roth

anything by Eric Friedman, formerly in SubmerseD. very very tasteful

Jeff Beck doing Mingus's Goodbye Pork Pie Hat
Zappa's Son of Orange County off Roxy
some Gilmour - Final Cut
and throw in Paul MCartney's instrumental version of Junk

this one introduced me to eric johnson's playing for the first time (go to 10:50)

my sister had this album on when i was in high school, and when this solo came on i was frozen in my tracks.
i had just read an article on ej in GP magazine prior to Tones coming out, and this blew my mind. in that article ej cited bill connors on chick corea's return to forever/hymn of the 7th galaxy as a huge influence, and it turned me to ted greene as well.

all in all it totally changed my attitude towards lead guitar playing.

One of my favorite (and most influential) solos that I definitely consider melodic is Alex Lifeson's lead break in Red Barchetta.

At 3:25

totally agree on this one. The whole song is F'ing incredible. the playing, the different tones, the vibe..... IMO one of the best songs of all time

I think this man should be mentioned, and I pick this song:

Allan Holdsworth - Peril Premonition

Definitely Superstitious by Europe...did a quick recording of it on my iPad with ampkit...actually 3 takes of the solo blended together

Blackbird - Alter Bridge
Sweet Child - GNR
Goodbye to Romance - OZZY
Jetpacks Was Yes - Periphery
Right of Passage - Dream Theater (kinda shreddy solo but its awesome)

Revocation - Dismantle The Dictator, for one.

Cued to time:

Some great ones mentioned in this thread

I'd add Joe Satriani - Crush of Love, The Forgotten Part II, Ten Words and Love Thing.
