yeah so did i.

just not an amplifier i could jive with. dont get me wrong they do sound great, are tight, focused, track awsome, and are way up there in the nice range but to me there is a blanket over the gain, different than a saturation type of thing going on - its more like a muffle. no matter the channel - channel 3 was the win channel for me - but channel 4 has that character in spades and with that kind of cash going on theres no way i could justify owning or recommending it. i just dont like it at all.

i think i know why it does it, and i could own one - but i would have to change about 10 resistors out and take some of the gain away or slightly change its voicing to get rid of it.

ill send you a PM of what i thought

Dude......... :gethim:

The VH4 is as good as it gets!

For real...... ;)

......and I have had damn near every fucking amp on my cabs the last few years!!

Oh well......to each their own!

I played the 5150 III today also for the first time. I loved it! Also played the Mark V which I liked quite a bit and the JVM which I thought kinda sucked. Either 5150 III or Mark V in my future.

Just wanted to add a couple of amps i've tried recently that I haven't seen mentioned,
MI Audio Megalith
Jet City Amps JCA100H

1. Mako Makoplex
2. Titan Custom
3. VHT Deliverance 120
4. Cameron Jose HG Modded Marshall
5. Mesa Mark IV

not necessarily in that order, but they all kicked ass.

1) Bogner 20th XTC
2) Bogner rev blue uber
3) Marshall jmp 100
4)Mesa Mk III
5)Fender Deluxe

I can't believe only 2 people named the Herbert so far. That's the most punishing amp I've ever heard

I can think of about 50 amps I would rather play than a Herbert. Don't care for it much at all. Though I do like it better than the VH4

Might as well add my tops:

VHT UL
Axe Fx with Mesa Simul-Sat
Modena M90
Mako Makoplex......probably my favorite
Marshall JVM210/205 prefer these over the 410
Mesa Mark III....don't really care what stripe as long as it has the EQ. Have had every color.
Cameron Modded JCM800...I think all the Camerons I owned were Aldrich mods.

Hard to narrow it to 5 :)

Honerable mention:

ENGL Blackmore
Mesa Mark IV
Jaded Faith modded Randall SL+ module
Soldano SLO with NO mods I bought from JB a long time ago. Have played quite a few SLO's and none touched that one
Mesa Mark IIC+

I am limiting my list to amps I have owned.

A few I haven't owned, but woudl like to try out:

ENGL Savage
Fortin....anything
Bogner XTC

No specific order....
Fryette/VHT UL or CLX
Mesa Mark 3/4
Fortin Meathead
JVM
Peters Dual Channel

These would be my current favorites in order....
Fortin Cali
Cameron HG Jose
Bogner Uberschall
Diezel VH4
It tapers off pretty quick from here so I don't know what I'd pick for a 5th one. Maybe the Nitro

No particular order,

VH4S
Tremoverb
MKV
Roccaforte HG100
Budda SD80

Wanting to try

M90
20th XTC
One of these damn modded Marshalls I keep hearing clips of!!!!
