Ok so the last video stirred up quite a shit storm :D

Here goes one where I try them out with a song:

Which one was first? I like the first one better. Awesome metal song BTW!

EDIT: ok, after listening with good headphones, the first one sounds deeper, but it has a weird "buzz" to it underneath the sound that the second one doesn't have. They both sound pretty cool to me though.

nice video! I think the Axe, while not as deep sounding here, sounds much more like an amp, and the POD, while deeper in eq, sounds more processed and fizzy.

I believe that the one's where you see the POD is the POD and where you see the rack it's Axe. If I'm right honestly I think a mix of both would be the best tone with me leaning towards the fullness in the mids of the Axe. If the Axe had the top end of the POD with the fullness in the mids then it would be hands down the winner for me.

Agreed, both together would sound even more huge. I really think either are quite good on their own in this mix however.

When he pans so you can see the floordboard, its the POD. yes, it has a little bit buzzy fizzy sound to it. While EQ'd Deeper, it sounds more processed to me. I think you could easily add more depth to the axe preset.

It says so in the video. When the modeler switches the text box that pops up says which is which.

awesome tune Ola!

not sure if this is going to stop the shitstorm though, both sound great, but that pod sounds impressive in the mix!

Front view is the POD, the looking up at Ola to the side is axe-fx.

Very cool, liked both myself.

I agree..... IMHO both bring something the other lacks in this style of music anyway. All that said I don't hear $1500 difference in the tones.

Oh so the text boxes doesn't appear when watching it embedded? Watch it on youtube then to see what's up.

Nothing against the HDxxx, hearing great tones.

It's not just "$1500 difference in the tones" though. On the Axe-Fx side it's routing possibilities. It's the number of amp sims, ever increasing for free. It's the number of cab sims. It's the number, diversity and quality of effects. It's the tweaking options. It's the ability to run an amp, cab, plus (in my presets) up to 18 other individual full-blown effects. Sure, I don't need them all "on" simultaneously (I can), but it makes a great virtual pedalboard, allowing maximum flexibility. It's the possibility to use imported 3rd party user cabs. And stuff. For me, that was and is the deciding factor.

Can people not see the red blips that label when he's playing Axe FX or POD HD?

I think the the POD HD sounds a bit thicker but also more muddy and compressed. It sounds better on the open chugs but when you start riffing the Axe FX's open clarity shines through and takes the win, IMO. I still think I would rather have a good rectifier than either modeler though.

nice job Ola
These clips would disuade me from dropping big cash on axe fx

Understood.... but for me and the way the POD HD functions it doesn't weigh into being a $1500 difference. YMMV.

That said if I had unlimited funds I'd have an Axe and or a 11R or POD HD for direct recording but there is no way on God's green earth I'd use them live or for my main recording over a good tube amp.

The PodHD500 has the same routing capabilities as the axe-fx. But you're right on the amp models thing.

THis is just one patch and sound style, I think before anyone could honestly answer if the Axe is worth more is going through ALL the many different amps. Lets compare a Vox, a marshall, low gain, mid gain stuff, efx. ETC.
