YT: Axe FX vs. Pod HD second try!

For this example/patch comparison....I dig the the POD.

If the pod can even be compared to the Axe Fx at less than a third of the cost, then wow that is an accomplishment all by itself!!!

I've only tried old pods and they sound really artificial, toy like, I don't think there was even a comparison to be made between those units and the Axe.

Id like to see how the POD compares in lower gain settings, showing the dynamics and nuances of the player.

I am not an avid supporter of either, never owned any, but

But I believe narrowing down the amp list and making them as real as possible is the way to go with these units... and the Line 6 are aiming at that.

So many options, tweaking and stuff is really annoying....

Great playing Ola  I honestly like them both. I sat back and listen to them with iPhone head phones on with my eyes closed and both were worthy of having. I will probably get the HD500 after the Ultra. Im sure someone will buy one and dump it and I can get it cheaper.

I see the pedal is coming out for the Axe. Well that youtube vid was in June at the NY amp show so who knows

I would like to try them both through the Atomic powered wedges, when I get them :D shit Im still trying to catch up from last years gas

Both sounded great...I found myself digging the tune moreso than paying attention to what was being used

One of the things that really sold me on teh Axe was the dynamic response. Any of the other modelers that I've tried could get some great base tones but none of them had the same amp-like response and feel that the Axe has IMO. Does the new POD unit have that going for it?

Great job making a thorough vid for a bunch of opinionated gear slutz.

For the coin, I have to give it to POD for making a solid run at the Axe. Consider these will be used at Guitar Center for 350 in about 6 months.... That is starting to look good.

Line 6- 2
AxeFX- 0

Great video and playing either way bro.

I can't comment on the Axe, but the HD500 has fantastic dynamic response and touch sensitivity, especially with the lower and mid-gain amps.

The only thing I haven't seen it do yet is that glassy, transparent high-end in a high-gain clip. I think the Axe does a very good job of translating that kind of frequency response without getting overly compressed or fizzy.

Also, I feel the need to point out that the Axe's "Recto New" and the HD500's Recto, while both modeling the 3-channel version's Red channel in Modern mode, are not the same since Line 6 used the Recto FX loop boost trick when modeling it. No idea if Cliff did the same thing, though I suspect he didn't for the sake of "authenticity".

Cool to know. Since the Axe models circuits and not tones, I would guess that you're correct.

Glad you guys enjoyed it. I'm not really happy with the Pod sounds, but the unit itself kicks ass, pedalboard, volume pedal, tuner. For smaller gig purposes it's going to be great. Rather than bringing my axe, a midi board and a boss tuner. The Pod will fit in my gigbag.

Yeah, that would be my take on it too.
I think I'm gonna grab one this week. Sounds like a great unit to plug into just about any clean amp and get great tones.
The Axe just never did it for me. I'll take an Eventide and a great pre/power amp setup for that stuff.
Looks like a great all in one unit to me, and I've never been a fan of Line 6 stuff other than their pro series effects modelers.

Very well done. Loved it

From that video, unlike the first, I definitely liked the Ultra better.

the L6 seems looser and more natural while the Axe seems jucier and warmer with a tight bottom end. The axe sounds more tube-like to me. They both sound better than my gt-10.

To me the axe sounds better by a mile in that clip, also I hear 1500$ better.

And as I always state, the Axe has a better attack response time, this is a HUGE advantage over the Pod. At least it is for me since it affects my playing.

Good stuff  I think the Axe sounds a lot better in this vid. Just something I really dont like about the top end on the POD. I hear some kind of buzzy, or fizzy element to it that seems to happen with all of their stuff, kind of hard to describe. Might be ok for live stuff since half the time no one would notice anyway unless they're a very discerning gear whore which most aren't :D

I'm glad someone else noticed that fizziness, I started to think I was crazy since people are saying it sounds better then the Axe FX. That high-end buzz is so grating and annoying! It might be fine in a mix though, but going by these videos, I wouldn't even consider the POD HD for myself.

There is a fizziness that I don't like from both of them.

Perhaps one does fizzy better than the other? :dunno:

Ola,
Can you post up a single recorded channel of each one without backing tracks?
I think it would do more justice to each unit if we can hear them in the raw.
No pre or post production at all.
Just get a nice hot level and hit record.
If you can that is
