Here is what was to be my first new guitar in over 10 years: A loaded up Carvin DC600C. Unfortunately, Carvin goofed and built it with the wrong style headstock. Here's a pic of what the headstock should have looked like:

(Edit: Changed picture to one that's a better example of the headstock....................not that anyone's going to like it any better ;) )

What I got instead was the 6-inline style you see in the pics. It might not seem like a big deal to some, but 2 things initially drew me to the looks of this guitar: The direct mounted pickups & the headstock (probably because they are different than on the Carvin I already own, which has the 6-inline headstock style). So it's going back for a rebuild.

Having to send it back is somewhat of a blessing in disguise though. I had gotten this guitar with a thinner neck option that they offer. While I don't hate it, I prefer the neck profile on my other Carvin. So I'm dropping that option (which was $60), and in it's place, I added an option they have where you email them a pic of what you want the top of the guitar (in this case, Spalted Maple) to look like and they go through their stock and match it as closely as possible (this option is $100, but I negotiated and got the $40 difference waved). I opted for that option because, while I really liked the top on the one they sent me, I've seen pics of Carvins with ones I've much preferred.

So anyway, it's going back and I'll have some more waiting to do (though I understand the wait time for rebuilds is usually less than the first time around, which was 2 months). Here's the specs & pics (and no cracks about my dirty-ass couch :D ):

- Adler Body (gloss finish),
- Spalted Maple Top /w Matching Headstock
- Maple Neck-Thru (Tung oil on back), Ebony Fretboard (25" scale/14" radius)
- Thinner Neck Option
- Stainless Steel Jumbo Frets
- Floyd Rose
- Locking Tuners
- Dunlop Straplocks
- Black Hardware
- Black Carvin Logo

The pickups are aftermarkets that I sent to Carvin to install:

- (Bridge) Suhr Doug Aldrich
- (Neck) Dimarzio Air Norton

The headstock they sent you looks soo much better than the one you wanted.

You should totally keep that

Dude, they did you a favor. That other headstock looks dated. This one looks much better. Maybe they will give you a discount and let you keep this guitar. But u are right, that is one of the nicest looking guitars in a while!

I'll be the third in a row: Keep that! It looks much better.
and congrats on the awesome guitar!

Obviously you guys aren't seeing the headstock correctly. :D

Here's a better picture of what the headstock I wanted looks like:

So you thought a new color would change our opinion? :D
The answer is still no.

I've purchased 3 new Carvins in my life and they screwed up something on every single one. Not only that, but I ended up returning two of them, and the third also had to go back for several other issues. It looks like they have stepped up their game as far as adding cool options though.

Wow...so much cooler looking with the headstock they gave you. Sorry to pile on, and to each their own, but I really like the guitar in the pics.

Man, people's luck with Carvin is crazy. I've ordered like 10 custom guitars from them over the years, and haven't had one mistake...weird.

Anyway, majority rule on this one. Keep the current headstock.

Looks much better with 6 in line, I'd keep it, and, as someone mentioned, negotiate for a discount.

Recessed OFR but no locking nut??????

Computer says no.

And their 'wrong' headstock looks way better too.

Gorgeous guitar man. Not to pile on, but the "wrong" headstock does really look good on it. Doesn't matter though, your opinion is the only one that counts, it's gotta give you gas when you look at it.

Doesn't matter what any of us think as already said you're the one that has to live with it.

keep it!

thats a KILLER looking axe...fuck me....they make somenice guitars!

This.

What's up with no locking nut? First time I have seen that w/ a Floyd.

That's not the first time Carvin has done that. They made floyd-equipped guitars for Tony Macalpine for a while that had no locking nut.

- It has locking tuners. I usually block my Floyds so they only drop the pitch (can't pull up) and I have no problems with tuning (my other Carvin doesn't have a locking nut either). This one did seem to hold it's tuning fairly well though (the string haven't really been stretched that much), even after pulling the strings sharp with the bar.

- And fuck ya'll, I like the 3+3 headstock. :D   :D

Like I said, the Carvin I already have (a DC127C that looks similar to this) has the 6 inline headstock, so I wanted something different for this one. No point in telling me to keep it, it's already in the process of going back.

- As nice as the Spalted top is on this, the top on the next one should look even better. I would post the picture I sent them for matching the new guitar's top, but I know as soon as I do everyone will say how much better the one I have now looks. ;)
