Hi guys,

I am picking up a Bogner 412ST with Celestion V30 + G12H30 120w.
I am familiar with G12H30s and they aren't my thing after playing them on and off for years. Great speakers, but I'll be looking to replace them. I am also not a big fan of the H75.

My Splawn 412 has Mesa Celestion V30/Celestion Redbacks.
My Bogner 212 has V30/K100 - love how throaty and full this sounds.
My Stone Age 212 has Redbacks. It's dark but so mean and thick. I tried Redback/H75 and Redback/K100 and preferred two Redbacks.

I am most likely going to keep the V30s in the Bogner and maybe go for G12K100s or Mesa C90s.

What do you guys think or recommend?

The band I'm playing with is sort of like Deftones meets Tool with a little Slipknot tossed in. Rather heavy with a lot of clean and heavy, plus some crunch thrown in now and then - ha!

My personal playing when I jam alone or with friends is more like 90s hard rock, metal and grunge with some older 70s/80s thrown in with some 2000s to current metal. So, I tend to lean toward heavier music even though I could play Satriani and VH one minute and the Slipknot the next.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your input. I have my own ideas of what to use based on my experience and from what I like, but I always like hearing what others like to use, as I may open some new doors of things I haven't considered. :)

In my music room, I have a few Lynchbacks and UK CL80s, but they are 8 ohms - I assume the Bogner has 16 ohm speakers.

Thanka again, so much! :)

I had a Bogner cab with all v30's. It was one of the best sounding cabs I've had.

I do like G12H30 when they're fully broken in. It's like a v30 with more grind and bass. But I'm also not a big fan of mixing speakers in cabs so much anymore.

Thanks, I am worried the H30 will be too stiff and not the best for heavy tones, if that makes sense? I may be way off! It's been a while.

It depends on the mix. In a 212, I tend to like two of the same, but often a mix works. V30/K100 is amazing in my 212.
Itried mixing in my Stone Age but settled on Redbacks.

In a 412, I do enjoy a nice blend. It's personal preference for sure! There is no wrong or right. Many top end amp and cab builders blend speakers as well as using all the same. In the end, I have to find my thing.

My point is, I don't want too much overlap with my bother cabs.

without sounding like a dick, I'm gonna point out to you here that you're planning on replacing some cones in a cabinet you've not even played through yet - and this isn't a wise expenditure of energy or thought process IMHO

just wait till you get the cab, wait till it's broken in and you've gotten to know the sonics of it along with whatever amp(s) you're running through it, and then make a decision

there's a reason cabs come the way they come - and the structure of the cabs themselves can do a lot for some speakers both good and bad. just give it an honest rip through first and then decide. it's also great to have cabs that have different character - you've got some heavy hitters in your arsenal already - maybe see where this one, as is, loaded with H30/V30s, lands in the mix - you might be surprised

Very good point dude!!
Thank you for the input.
The cab is well broken in, which is good!

I'm only going off my experience with those speakers in the past, but you are very right. I will certainly see how they sound. Maybe I'll love it! :)

I only wirh the speakers in the cab were 8 ohm since I have a bunch of 8 ohm speakers laying around doing nothing. I can blame that on my Lynchbacks only being made in 8 ohms. I built a cab years ago based on my Lynchbacks and started swapping speakers - hence I o ly nought 8 ohms speakers. :(

My Cameron 412 with G12H30’s sounds phenomenal with high gain. They have a grind that stands out. They’re very broken in though. And that’s important for those speakers.

Awesome, I'm excited!

I used to use Greenbacks, but preferred my Lynchbacks, and in the end, preferred heavy magnet speakers for high gain.

Can't wait to give it a go!! :)

I mixed V30s with M65s, H75s and Lynchbacks. Lynchbacks I really liked, but in the end, I much preferred V30s and Redbacks or V30s with CL80s or K100s. Personal preference with heavy magnet speakers.
So, I'm looking forward to ripping thru the Bogner 412 with V30/H30s.

H75s I tried to like and they sound great for many guys. I just always ended back on Redbacks and other speakers.

So much is personal preference. We all have our likes and dislike a.

Thanka for the conversation guys.

The newer H30 Anniversaries have been made in England due to Covid for a few years now…I have a pair that I used with the last Cameron I had. To me, big difference in this pair than the previous Annie’s I tried…out of the box they had far less harsh high end I remember them having. Not sure which version or what year yours are but that was my experience a few months back

This is an older Bogner 412.

Once speakers are broken in, I never hear a difference between UK and China. I have Mesa/UK/China speaker and all sound equally good.

I replaced the China speakers in my one 412 with English made speakers and sounded the same. Wasted my time, lol.

I honestly don’t remember. I bought a quad from some place who had pallets full of them. I took them to Jim at Scumback to have them broken in on his setup. He said the break-in simulates 60 hours of use at stage volumes.

Either way, I'll be fine and have great tones. We are splitting hairs I know.
In the end, this should be fun. I'm looking forward to my new Archon and Bogner cab. Thanks guys.
I often have Dave at Avatar breaknin speakers when I buy the V30s and CL80s I got from him plus the Redbacks were awesome.
Unfortunately I replaced the China V30s from him with some UK Mesa V30s. I didn't hear a difference.

The ones I have are maybe equal to broken in versions; I don’t have much experience with them as I’ve flipped them fairly fast due to the high end. And I like bright. But I figured I’d try them again with the Cam Jose Marshall I had; worked well with it. Definitely less bright than the previous ones I had. I’ve got a Pulsonic H30 pair coming so I’m gonna put them in with the Annie’s and give it a spin

Interesting your comment on them being so bright.
Thanks for the info!

The guy I was gonna get the Bogner 412 from hasn't been availabl but rhe can is mine if I want it.
Due to cost and my finances, I've held off anyway. He wants $700 which is good, but it's a lot for me since I just bought a new amp too.

Current line up is the following:
Splawn straight 412 - V30/Redback
Stone Age 212 - Redbacks
Bogner 212 - V30/K100

If I want to save money, I found an empty US built Randall R412 but I still have to get speakers.
Otherwise, I could find a used Marshall 412 for around $500.

Update...

I have the Bogner 412ST and it's a great cab. Sounds big, deep, 3-D and full. I like the tilted or angled baffle. It also helps makes a difference. It fills the room nicely.

That said, the G12H-30 speakers are not doing it for me. It has V30/30. I've never been a fan of the H30 for my music which is a combination of heavy metal and clean atmospheric sounds. Think Tool, A Perfect Circle, Slipknot, Deftones, etc.

I'm thinking of replacing the H30s with K100s, CL80s or possibly Creamback M65s or H75s, but I'm not sure I want small dust cap speakers.

I tend to like to mix in a few large dust cap speakers which is why I'm thinking of the K100 or CL80.

My Splawn 412, has V30/Redbacks.
I love the V30/K100 in my Bogner OS212 and believe they would rock in this 412.
Either that or the Classic Lead 80s.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

A quad full of V30 is a bit much for me, and H30's can be harsh unless the amp is quite dark. I like to mix in a pair of CL80's or M65's - it just works.

Yes, nothing wrong with H30 speakers, but they don't work for me.

I hear ya on V30s, yet I do have friends who gig and sear by a quad of V30s. Plus they sound great to me.

That said, I'm going with large dust cap speakers and some of my go-to speakers to mix - K100 or CL80.

So no K100s for you?
I love CL80s, so I may grab a few UK CL80s from Avatar.

I thought of M65s but they may not be tight enough and I believe they are also small dust cap speakers. I have a thing for large dust cap speakers, lol., Speakers such as Redbacks, K-100s and CL80s.

Mesa V30’s will sound superior to UK V30’s made as far back as March ‘93.

Personal preference. I have China, UK and Mesa V30s. I love them all for different reasons. I like the Mesa V30s, but they aren't necessarily my favorite of the bunch.
I just picked up a set of 2002 Mesa V30s I love as much as my older and newer V30s. I've had V30s from all the past decades and I don't have a favorite.

Some of my amps sound better thru my China and standard UK V30s.
I also replaced the Chinese V30s in my Splawn with older Mesa V30s, and while there was a difference, it was minor. Nobody really noticed in the band.

I don't get caught up in that....

Deftones wants for the Marshall variant. Studio wants for the Mesa. Live wants for the 16 ohm UK/Chiner for cut.
