The analogy, as it pertains to preparedness, is entirely applicable.
By putting on your seatbelt, you a preparing yourself to possibly reduce injury or even death in the event of an automobile crash.
By carrying a firearm, if you choose to do so legally, You are ALSO preparing yourself to possibly reduce injury or even death in the event of a violent encounter.
Therefore, the analogies are the same.

A seat belt's only purpose it to help minimize bodily injury. That's pretty much it.
(I do use one as a guitar strap though.... )

Maybe a bumper would be a better analogy, since it's also a preventative measure for both the car and occupants,
but can also be used as a weapon if required. I'm thinking road rage and running over people and shit.

I would say that the above-typed material does not demonstrate a solid understanding either of the analogy or of the concept of personal defense
