This is not a metal amp

If you're suggesting it's the amp I'm suggesting that those terms you used to describe it are magnified by micing the upper speakers in the angled part of the cab. That someone would do a review and mic the cab like that makes me think they are a greenhorn.

You are honestly the first person I’ve ever heard say the rule is to mic the bottom speaker on a slant cab.

No not at all. In his previous video he visited the Marshall Sweden HQ and the amp sounded exactly the same and it was only room mic'd. They also sent him the 800 Mod head which will be demod next on his channel.
Depending on how long he took to set up and find the sweet spot in the room it doesn't mean anything and it actually doesn't mean anything even if he did. What's a "room mic", like an actual condenser mic or just an i-phone?

I think this video unintentionally fooled a lot of people. Ola included. Lots of preconceptions resulting in people dismissing it resulting in them "half" or "lazy" listening to it. The video began with a forgone conclusion. Even the title suggests that. I don't even think most people watched the whole video before commenting.
The first half or even 2/3 of the video was pretty limp. But it picked up when he switched guitars and boosted it. It's not an engl or a Recto or a 5150. It's it own thing, not a typical or ideal metal amp. I know I'd likely have difficulty playing it too. But I can appreciate it's sound.

I listened to it. The boosted part was ok but would've been better if he hadn't mic'ed it like that, it's the wrong way. Per his greenhorn mic job review I would be selecting a wizzer mcii over this.

I have one . Great amp . But that was designed in the 90s . I like the JVM but I’m not going to say anything else about it lol . I think the jvm guys are mad at me . But I do like it in many ways . But it left me feeling let down in one way . But again its cool
Lol, nobody is mad or I'm not at least. We all just hear and feel things differently.

And in general I agree in regards to modern Marshall development, they don't get it.

And therein lies the problem, several of their amps are basically the sound and baseline of rock n roll and none of us can figure out why they don't just mass produce what other designers seem to modify so easily. Yes those guys have their own personal touch they add on but still why can't Marshall do it? In reading something from Santiago they apparently had an amazing "modern" design team there during the era of the JVM an other amps developments, those guys could have done anything and it seems Marshall kinda put the kibosh on them. Some designs even shelved. I would love to know why. Then they release these two turkeys of an amp with the modded Plex and 800.

Further what bugs us is basically anyone on this board could walk into Marshall and go, this is what you need to do, this is what people want and yet maybe the most legendary amp manufacture doesn't have a freaking clue. Why? It's just weird and disappointing.

Ya I agree . Im glad I didn’t offend you . I posted a clip of jvm and Herbert and I asked for feedback and got no reply so that was weird . I was tuned to d on my 8 string . Too loo . Bit I thought it was a cool time for us playing live

If you haven't found a Marshall based mod you love by 2025, I'd suggest serious mental help.. If you haven't found it by now, Marshall isn't your amp. The best ones have been around since the 80s.

There is a reason the straight cabs generally sound better than their angled counterparts.

you may be right, i dont have the same strait and angled cab to compare. thats a different topic though than mic'ing the bottom speakers on a slant, which i just never knew as one of the rules. maybe ill do an experiment where i mic all four speakers and we'll see who can tell which are the angled or bottom speakers.

Did they let Billy use a modded Marshall for an actually add ? Wild .Old add from 84

Chinese 9th gen pre amp tubes are some of the best sounding and most popular

Don’t even know if they’re still made due to the whole factory thing that went down a few years ago
Agreed. My main pre's, have a ton of them in stock. From my experience they just give an amp more of everything. Def not many new pre tubes I like especially most of the JJ stuff. I think the only modern pre I like is the EH pre.

Sorry man, I missed that post tracked it down and commented.

What kinda gear expert mics the speaker in the angled section of a slanted cab? Apparently he don't know what the hell he's doing.

Nolly + Kohle
you get a comb filter at around 500 Hz and a ringing a lil higher at the half the wavelength of the cab depth or something, if the cab is straight.

from 21:28

and kohle has the same effect here:

from 10:00 on
