What song are you working on learning?

Rage Against the Machine -
Killing in the Name Of

Killswitch Engage - Inhale

Ozzy -
Mr Crowley
Bark at the Moon

I'm not far along yet to do full songs. Lately though I've been learning riffs to AIC 'Would', Metallica 'Master of Puppets', VH "Unchained", Metallica "One", 311 "Down", KSE "Rose of Sharon"

He plays it differently than on the album.

Same as with this clip.

That had me curious as well so I ended up finding that same vid you posted. Looks like sweep - pull - sweep - pull like you said. Do you know what that stomp box he is hitting on? Can't be a boost. NS-2 noise surpressor maybe? It can't be his MXR Wilde pedal as I can't imagine he would be turning that on and off like that :dunno:

Killswitch Engage - Rose of Sharyn

I love working on KSE riffs (mostly ROS and My Curse). That pre chorus riff where it goes bump-bump-bump, bump-bump-bump, x4 I can't play like the tab shows so I have to switch it up bit

Yes the KSE riffs! And that particular one I move the position down to the cowboy chord area and play all the same notes in that position. It's still tough but much more doable for my fingers. There's one stretch on the pinky finger to get a low pedal tone note but even with that it's much easier for me.

I was thinking of making a video when I get it smoothed out.

Oh wow, so I'm not the only one

So you are doing that whole part further down the neck? Dang, maybe I should cop that.

This is old when I sucked even more than now and using Imgur so....Now trying Google Drive

Diary Of a Madman. It's depressing because all I can focus on is how amazing Randy was to come up with stuff like that. I am definitely not worthy.
I've picked it out before. It's difficult to execute cleanly. For me anyway.

fbHw9AK.mp4

Its easier if you use your ring finger to get that note in the prechorus

Edit: 1:28

I'm playing a wedding tonight. had to add 20 songs to our repertoire in one week (Bride picks). we should do well.

taking my new Suhr Modern on its first gig.... woohoo!
Nice, have a good gig.

I felt alittle bad for the other guitarist after seeing vid and audio from the gig. He and the bassist go direct and they all have iem’s. I brought my Wizard and 2-12 cab. Kept the volume fairly low just enough to hear with the drum kit. They gave me a wedge for what I wanted to hear monitor wise. Listening back my guitar is quite louder in both the direct audio and video with pa mix than his Kemper direct rig. Not surprised by that, but he is probably dissappointed by it.

I've got a new 80s hard rock & hair metal project we're learning 40 songs for including some pretty challenging stuff. I have to say though, the hardest riff I'm learning for this show is Cult of Personality. Where he does the full main riff twice back to back is a real motherfucker for me to nail. Anyone else know that one?

We do that one. I do mostly my own solos, use a few of his cooler not nonsense licks.

That 442 lick is the bane of my existence
Yeah it's a hill to climb for sure. I've considered hybrid picking it, the high note of each group always comes out weak for me. And that's the 1-in-10 times I actually get thru it. Just learning that pick-pull/hammer-pick is a cool technique. Don't know if that's where Yngwie got that but he does it too. Ben Eller has a good lesson on it too.

Can't see your video.

Yes that riff beginning 1:28 in @PiggySmallz I play those notes in the first position. Same notes different phrasing I guess.

In the video he makes the riff look easy. I'll try to figure what he's doing.

Or maybe I'll play it my way and move on. I got many more songs to learn.
