He plays it differently than on the album.
Same as with this clip.
Killswitch Engage - Rose of Sharyn
I'm not far along yet to do full songs. Lately though I've been learning riffs to AIC 'Would', Metallica 'Master of Puppets', VH "Unchained", Metallica "One", 311 "Down", KSE "Rose of Sharon"
That had me curious as well so I ended up finding that same vid you posted. Looks like sweep - pull - sweep - pull like you said. Do you know what that stomp box he is hitting on? Can't be a boost. NS-2 noise surpressor maybe? It can't be his MXR Wilde pedal as I can't imagine he would be turning that on and off like that
I love working on KSE riffs (mostly ROS and My Curse). That pre chorus riff where it goes bump-bump-bump, bump-bump-bump, x4 I can't play like the tab shows so I have to switch it up bit
From the man himself.I'm about to attempt the intro solo to "Sails of Charon" again. Again.
Just had to learn 40 songs in two days for a last minute fill in gig. Kinda stressful, but turned out ok overall. Missed one or two but got thru the gig.
Yes the KSE riffs! And that particular one I move the position down to the cowboy chord area and play all the same notes in that position. It's still tough but much more doable for my fingers. There's one stretch on the pinky finger to get a low pedal tone note but even with that it's much easier for me.
I was thinking of making a video when I get it smoothed out.

I've picked it out before. It's difficult to execute cleanly. For me anyway.Diary Of a Madman. It's depressing because all I can focus on is how amazing Randy was to come up with stuff like that. I am definitely not worthy.
Nice, have a good gig.I'm playing a wedding tonight. had to add 20 songs to our repertoire in one week (Bride picks). we should do well.
taking my new Suhr Modern on its first gig.... woohoo!
It’s a cool lick. Learned that solo many times over the years. Pretty close with my last attempt a few years ago. Everytime I see him play, it is so effortless for him. That 442 lick is the bane of my existence
We do that one. I do mostly my own solos, use a few of his cooler not nonsense licks.I've got a new 80s hard rock & hair metal project we're learning 40 songs for including some pretty challenging stuff. I have to say though, the hardest riff I'm learning for this show is Cult of Personality. Where he does the full main riff twice back to back is a real motherfucker for me to nail. Anyone else know that one?
we cover that one too. I frankly can't play his frenetic scribbles, so I do my own solos....We do that one. I do mostly my own solos, use a few of his cooler not nonsense licks.
Good luck and have fun.we cover that one too. I frankly can't play his frenetic scribbles, so I do my own solos....
time to pack and go.... wish me luck!
Yeah it's a hill to climb for sure. I've considered hybrid picking it, the high note of each group always comes out weak for me. And that's the 1-in-10 times I actually get thru it. Just learning that pick-pull/hammer-pick is a cool technique. Don't know if that's where Yngwie got that but he does it too. Ben Eller has a good lesson on it too. That 442 lick is the bane of my existence
