Everyone in OTC. Due Sunday the 17th of August, 2025. If you can't come up with something by then, you should probably find a forum where you belong. Like reddit or 4chan. Seems to be more the speed of a lot of y'all. If even one of you can beat my riffs I will leave the forum for good and the rest of you can continue pretending like you are musicians.

Honestly, would be fine with last place among the main forum musician posters (and am not really trying to compare originals vs covers, tbh, but I feel what y'all are saying nonetheless), but the old Talledega Nights (sp?) movie saying of if I'm not first I'm last against the OTC crew. Hope none of y'all actual musicians or up and coming/those who try no matter their skill level take this as an offense against y'all, but the audacity and stupidity I'm witnessing in elsewhere forum has me ready to go nuclear.

I love covers. There is a lot of cool music out there. But if you play a cover in Riffwarz, should be a permaban. The whole point is to come up with a riff, and sometimes on the fly

Couple of issues I see. First of all I would be very disappointed if you let OT wankery have even a little leverage over whether or not you continue to post here. I enjoy your posts in and out of OT and I think most people here do too.

Secondly, as Sir Smashington just pointed out, covers don’t really belong in Riffwarz and some of us are primarily dudes who are or were in cover bands. Also some of us aren’t primarily guitar players, much less “Chugsters”. Does that mean I’m not a musician ? I mean I feel like I am. I’ve been playing bass and guitar for over 40 years and been in more than one at least mediocre steady working band.

I have no real way to record a decent track to upload here nor do I really have the kinda time currently to actually produce something I wouldn’t be embarrassed by.

I do have a couple nice covers of old AIC songs I recorded with my kid on GarageBand years ago back when she was about 14 or 15 but even though they’re on my phone I couldn’t begin to tell you how I could upload them here.


I’m just going to pretend I didn’t see this thread so I can go on pretending I’m a musician.

This is so accurate - actually, off-topic sometimes I look at it sometimes I comment, but usually I ignore it
But I do think it’s absolutely bad ass that it exists, nowadays it seems that everybody wants a sanitized environment yet freedom of speech is pretty cool

I actively dodge the OTC unless I am in a very specific mood and completely understand I may read things so absolutely stupid that they enrage me.

OTC is one of the things I actually love about RT.

I seriously cannot find forums this open anywhere else on the internet tbh.

What is funny is that in all of my years on/off as a studio guitarist, I am not certain I have really any of the music I worked on.

I can find a track or two on the internet maybe but the music genre I primarily would add guitar work to - the guitar is not the focus, if that makes sense.

Even the last track I released before my daughter was born - which everyone who knows me expected to be some intense guitar wizardry - was primarily about the vocals and did not even have a guitar solo in the song.

It's funny, even when I did covers in my bands, they always sounded different than the original.

My main focus has been writing my own parts and music for in/out of the studio and my own projects.

I have so may tracks that are part way recorded and then I start on a new project or something....ugh.

Thanks for the reminder and push to get to recording my music.

Covers are cool, and it IS fun to be in a band and playing together like that, I have done it with symphonies and jazz ensembles and such.

Creating new music with fellow musicians though? That is where it is at.

Musicians are an odd lot - me included.

Although, I'm confused about why covers keep getting brought up. You're not an OTC member anyways, imo. You've posted clips and participate in the main. I'm hunting trolls who use a music forum to act like scumbags, not enthusiasts or musicians. Those whose only interest is to be trolls and have never even been in the same room as a guitar.
