BE-100 vs JCM-800

I like the first one better, unless it's just a volume disparity. Did they ever tell which was which?

No. There's times i can tell and times i can't.
You're not going to fool Mr. Friedman but there's a good chance he can fool you.

I don’t doubt he dialled it in to sound the same but it’s tricky to tell over a camera mic. But, on my iPad they sound the same to me. How the feel? Who knows.

I wish to god the deluxe sounded the same as an 800. Way more versatile, loop, depth and nfb, footswitch able channels, sat….come on

I would argue, the biggest difference between BE and Marshall is the presence control. On Marshall's I will keep pretty low (around 5) and Friedman, I need it very high (around 8). Can be dialed similarly, but Marshalls have way more cut on tap.

But at the same time less exciting, lively, brash and badass. This is what I always find when people make an 800 and “improve” a coupe of little things here and there.

Depends on the application. If you're playing live, probably that harshsness helps to cut through.

But if you're playing by yourself, it's way more pleasant to have a slightly less brash tone.

The thing is: the Friedman can sound really close to the 800, but the 800 can't sound like the Friedman.

It's a room mic so not the best gauge but first one is clearly with Friedman with the softer edges and hollow mids and the second punches and cuts and is the 800 so no, they don't sound alike. His Jel 50 or IR does it best/closer but his other offerings def do not. I always mention the Brahma module Dave did for Randall. That thing DOES do the JMP/800 thing and side by side you would say it is the same. Don't know why he made the switch to these soft ass mids and rounding the tone off so much. I guess people liked it and thought solo'ing was more pleasing because it is more forgiving.

Both sound good to me. Isn't the BE100 deluxe basically a Marshall circuit with a bunch of popular mods that you can switch in and out?? They do (Friedman's) sound a bit smoother than a stock 800 but I think stock jcm800's are a little harsh and rough sounding.

Not when you get their volume up they aren't.. the Friedman's are sort of designed to sound like a Marshall with the volume up but they just lose too much of the clank and the cut a Marshall has. Don't get me wrong I think i could be satisfied if someone gave me a BE100 but if I had the choice.. sticking with Marshall.

Not really. It's a different circuit and in the room (or in a proper recording) the differences aren't hard to spot, particularly when you're the player.

I'm not sure what the point of this video is, a phone/camera mic isn't useful for anything other than general vibe.

I actually prefer phone videos nowadays, they give a more honest representation of the tone in the room.

Listening to IR’s or mic recordings doesn’t do it for me because everything can be made to sound great, no matter how subpar the product is.
