Dokken sound - Modded Plexi or modded JCM?

As others have said, the purple plexi is what Lynch used on BFTA. I do not believe it was modded, just a great sounding amp. The DD record, that song in particular isn't Norum, it's Billy White, the other guitar player. As good as John is, Billy is the real deal on that record. Lots of...

    EVH talking about Randy

Well said about Yngwie. It's hard to explain to the younger generation just how godly Yngwie was when he came out of nowhere. Just complete control, with no fear. Like Eddie, he had a feel and phrasing that was natural.

    EVH talking about Randy

In reading books on VH and interviews, there was another LA guy named Terry, the last name escapes me. He and Eddie were the guys in their circle. In VH Rising, it's said that Terry showed Eddie the tapping thing, but that Eddie took it and moved it around. Meaning, the tap shown to Eddie was...

    SoilWork fans?

I really love the early stuff, through Pred Port, but I felt that was a let down from the awesomeness that preceded it.

Lexicon MPX G2 - FX Only SORTED!

I don't have a Lexicon, but I have used rack effects for decades. I have found that running series is usually the best, though you do get after effects/coloring. I set the rotary levels to unity, if there is a input/output gain knob, and then internally I set the levels of the effects. I have...

    Marshall JCM800 2203KK Rebuild

Was this from the Nashville flood? I hope that you paid next to nothing for it. Amazing skill that you have though, it will be interesting to hear it when it's finished.

    Rackmount compressor advice

I use mine in the loop of a Triaxis, which is only on the clean sounds. The rest of the rack effects are in series after the Triaxis. With a standard head, I would try to find a loop box and put it in the loop of the amp, but switchable independently of the delay/reverb effects. Again, I...

Best digital delay for old tape warble

This is what I use. If it's good enough for Eric Johnson, it's good enough for me.

    Queensryche Jet City Woman Cover

Great cover Mark! I never realized how much of a style Scott had until I saw them in January and the new guy didn't play Scott's parts, he just held the beat. Little things like the hihat chokes at the end of the opening solo, the guy is missed.

Midi Controller recommendation.. Splawn and TC Gmajor 2

The Gmaj2 can do switching. I also use the Berhinger midi controller, which can also do it. When I ran my powerball, it had two trs inserts, so I figured out through a combination of mono to stereo cables to make it work. Between the two, you should be all set.

    Midi hassle

This. The midi cable out of of the midi controller to the in on the piranha. You should be able to press any button on the controller and the patch/preset should change on the piranha. On the piranha, under the midi setup, the midi mapping should be 1-1 or global or omni. I'm not sure what...

TriAxis - Voodoo Lab Ground Control Pro WTF?

The version 2 triaxis and beyond is capable of CC changes, along with the Red 1 board replaced with the Rec or fat. I have run a triaxis for 15 years, but I never got into the CC of the Triaxis. The reality is that for distortion, you're going to most likely end up with a ld2 channel preset...

What DAW do you recomend for windows

Reaper! It's so robust, it's free to start. They load it up with TONS of usable plugs. Their website has dozens of great how to videos to get you started. The actual purchase price is only like $100, forever. They have patches weekly.

My first visit to a guitar centre .... oh dear

When they first came to my town around 2001, they were actually pretty good. It was helpful that I knew most of the guys working from the local scene, but they would let you try out pretty much everything. Starting around 07 with the market crash, it started to change. It's been at the point...

Just played Staples Center with DLR - amazing night!

That's awesome!! When I heard that Dave was going solo and Vai wasn't involved, I thought, meh. But then I read that you landed the spot and thought, hell YES! I can't think of anyone that can pull off that setlist short of Ed and Steve better than you. I'm glad that the world will get to...

    Guitar wiring issue

If the pots are different values, that will have an impact (tone pots included). The capacitor is a treble bleed, so as you roll down the volume, the treble stays up, so it cuts better on a clean sound. This will also change the tone when rolled up. As others have said, I have the same...

E.Johnson's Ear for tone has always impressed me...

I love Eric Johnson. I didn't really get him until about 6 years ago. When I was younger I always thought, he just plays pentatonics. After I watched his Austin City Limits, wow, that was different. What I love most about his style is that while it's pentatonic based, his note choices and his...

Anybody here of this new band yet? TestAmenT?

That's too bad. I saw them on tour two years ago at a mid sized club. I got to briefly meet Gene, I told him he was the reason that I was there. He smiled and said thanks. Even after the weight loss, the man is a giant. I'm 6'1 and he towered over me. I love Testament, I like the newer...
